There is a 1-year Postdoctoral position in the IEBIS group, in University of Twente on the topic of 'Predicting Child Health using Social-medical Record Data'.

The goal of this project is to develop predictive models and tools to aid in the identification of child abuse and child neglect by child healthcare professionals and integrate them as an API in the digital health record system that is currently used. We plan to use both the structured and unstructured data in our data mining process. The resulting predictive models should support child healthcare professionals in the process of identifying and correctly registering child abuse and neglect.

The postdoctoral position is for one year, which can be extended subject to future grants. The postdoc would spend 3-4 months on improving and optimizing the collection of structured as well as unstructured data from the different child healthcare organisations. Furthermore, about half a year will be spent on analysing the data and categorizing the results of actual child abuse and neglect. Specifically, we would like to explore different data sources and noise reduction techniques to strongly improve accuracy (compared to our earlier models). We would like to validate our results using experts from child healthcare and see if we can improve on the data analysis process in order to build better and more reliable decision support.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for self-motivated and ambitious individuals who have a PhD in computer science, information systems or a related discipline. The candidate should have knowledge of, and experience in, analysing both structured and unstructured data using machine-learning algorithms (experience of statistical approaches are a plus). It is preferable that the candidate has a good working knowledge of Dutch, as most of the data in the GGD is in Dutch. The candidate must have the desire to undertake and publish research that makes important theoretical and applied contributions to the field, and experience of publishing will be an advantage. Experience and affinity with research in (preventive) healthcare will also be an advantage. The candidate must be comfortable and willing to work with various academic, governmental and commercial agencies in the region.

What we offer

We offer a one-year postdoctoral position in a relaxed, productive yet enjoyable working environment, along with a competitive salary and many additional benefits.
