The Department of Information Systems at Virginia Commonwealth University
invites applications from qualified and highly motivated candidates for the
Ph.D. program in Business with a concentration in Information Systems.

*The VCU **Ph.D. in Information Systems:*
Students who complete the VCU Ph.D. program in Business with a
concentration in Information Systems will be well prepared to contribute to
the advancement of information systems knowledge through high-quality
discipline-based scholarship, teach subsequent generations of information
systems students and business students in general, and serve the
information systems community.
*Faculty & Doctoral Studies Research Areas*:
Current Research areas include:
*Cybersecurity, Homeland Security, Data Science, Business Analytics, Data
Mining, Knowledge Management, Decision Support Systems, Research Methods,
Systems Analysis and Design, *and* Information Technology for Development*.
We embrace qualitative & quantitative empirical research methodologies, as
well as Design Science methodologies.
*Publications:*
The VCU Department of Information Systems has a strong and productive
research culture. Our faculty & graduates have published in many
high-quality journals including*:*
*Management Information Systems Quarterly, Information Systems Research,
Information Systems Journal, Journal of Information Technology, Journal of
Strategic Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Expert Systems
with Applications, European Journal of Information Systems, OMEGA, European
Journal of Operational Research, Information and Management, *and*
Information Technology for Development*.
*Our Graduates:*
Most of our graduates occupy academic positions at leading public and
private universities in North America and other areas of the globe; some
serve in leadership positions in industry & government.
*Typical Length of the program:*
Full-time students typically complete all requirements within 4 years.
*Graduate Assistantships:*
Graduate research and teaching assistantships for full-time students
include tuition coverage, access to low-cost health care, a minimum stipend
of $23,000 per year for the first four years in the program, and travel
support for research conferences.
*Who should apply:*
We accept both full-time & part-time students with adequate graduate
preparation in Information Systems. There is a preference for full-time
students who are primarily interested in pursuing careers in academia and
can work as teaching or research assistants with faculty.
*When to apply:*
Admission decisions and allocation of assistantships are generally made in
January of each year, for the program to start in the fall of the same
year. To be guaranteed consideration, complete application packages should
be received by the School of Business in the first week of January.
