Post-Doctoral Researcher | Head of the Research Group "Digital Technologies and Well-Being" at the new "German Internet Institute for the Networked Society" in Berlin, Germany

 

The German Internet Institute for the Networked Society and Chair for Business Informatics, esp. Social media and Data Science at the University of Potsdam in Germany (Prof. Hanna Krasnova) are pleased to invite applications for Post-Doctoral Researcher | Head of the Research Group "Digital Technologies and Well-Being".

 

The German Internet Institute for the Networked Society will study the interplay of Digital Transformation and Society, starting Sept. 15, 2017 in Berlin. The Berlin-Brandenburg consortium is led by Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) and funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). Beside WZB, it includes Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Berlin University of the Arts, Technische Universität Berlin, University of Potsdam and Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS). The objective of the Internet Institute will be to analyze the changes of society along the ongoing digital transformation and to outline options for political and economic actions. Interdisciplinary research and cooperation across social, economic, and legal sciences with design research and computer science will be the main focus of the Berlin-Brandenburg consortium. Basic research and the exploration of concrete solutions in open labs will be combined with knowledge transfer to politics, business and society.

 

***Terms of employment***

 

The starting date for this position is 1st of November or later. This position has a workload of 40 hours per week (100%, TV-L13) and is limited till 14.09.2020. The availability of the position is contingent on the funding by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Re-search. The terms of employment are governed by §2.1 of the Science Employment Law (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG).

 

***Research Focus***

 

The candidate will be responsible for the research and management of the Research Group "Digital Technologies and Well-Being", which will focus on the following research areas:

- Impact of Social Media on Users' Well-Being, Perceptions and Behavior

- Effects of Wearables on Users' Well-Being, Perceptions and Behavior

- Smartphone and Social Media Addiction

- Analysis of Online Behavioral Patterns

 

***Requirements***

- Doctoral Degree in Information Systems, Business / Economics, Psychology, - Social Sciences or comparable direction (magna cum laude or better).

- Journal publications

- Publications in the proceedings of international conferences

- In-depth knowledge of methods of quantitative and / or qualitative research

- Involvement in the scientific community (e.g., as an associate editor)

- Experience in managing research projects, including third-party and interdisciplinary projects

- Fluent command of English (both written and spoken)

- Knowledge of German or interest in learning German

- Interest in research / analytical work.

 

***Responsibilities***

 

- Management of the interdisciplinary research group "Digital Technologies and Well-being" (including doctoral students, student assistants, and a part-time project assistants)

- Development of the research design

- Data collection and evaluation

- Publication of the research results in relevant journals; and presentation of the results at international conferences

- Development of an international and interdisciplinary research network; including organization and participation in project meetings, method workshops, research retreats, interdisciplinary seminars

- Further development of the research program in cooperation with the Principal Investigators

- Support of the doctoral projects of junior research group members

- Contribution to project report and follow-up applications

- Representation of the research group

 

At least one-third of the working hours should be dedicated to in-depth research work. The university strives for a balanced gender ratio across all employee groups.
