Dear colleagues,

In memorandum of its founding Editor-in-Chief, the late Paul Gray, the Communications of the Association of the Information Systems' current and past editors established an annual award to recognize a published CAIS paper as the most thought provoking paper.

The Paul Gray award is awarded annually in recognition of a paper that provokes thoughts and "lingers on" in the memory of those who read it. The award is determined through a selection committee involving the past and current EiCs of the Communications of the Association for Information Systems, presently Joey George, Matti Rossi and myself.

It now gives me great pleasure to announce our winner of the Paul Gray award for the calendar year 2017. The winning paper is:

The Potential for Citizen Science in Information Systems Research<http://aisel.aisnet.org/cais/vol40/iss1/2>
Matt Levy and Matt Germonprez
Communications of the Association for Information Systems: Vol. 40, Article 2, DOI: 10.17705/1CAIS.04002.
This is the rationale of the selection committee about the winning paper:

"This paper develops the idea of citizen science from the citizen scientists of the 18th century to the 'professionalization' of science, to the current situation, where there are now many opportunities for ordinary citizens to re-engage with science and the role IS might play in that. It is a truly thought provoking idea in the best legacy of Paul Gray. It forces one to rethink his/her assumptions about science and how it can and should be performed. The possibilities for citizen science within information systems are outlined and ideas for future projects are given."

You can read the paper using the link provided. Please join me in congratulating our colleagues for their fine contribution.

Many thanks for your continued interest and support of CAIS.
