Dear members of AIS,
The Industry Innovation Forum (IIF), to be held the first time at ECIS 2019, aims to bring together information systems practitioners and scholars as it seeks to foster the dialog between industry and academia. The one-day event is co-located with the main conference and will take place on the second conference day - Thursday June 13.
The 2019 Industry Innovation Forum is under the broad theme “Information Systems for a Sharing Society.” The keynote will be held by Michael Björn, Head of Research and Ericsson ConsumerLabs. Two panels will address two key topics: The first, on smart mobility, looks critically at the current state and future prospects of smart mobility concepts in the sharing society. The second, on prosumers, looks critically at the current state, understanding, and future prospects of prosumption.
Lunch will be provided and attendees will have the chance to mingle and exchange their ideas. We expect the IIF to be of great value to both scholars and industry practitioners. Scholars will have the chance to learn what’s currently on the mind of industry practitioners—and practitioners will learn about what academia and the IS field is currently interested in. Our field can benefit much from a strong dialog between industry and practice.

Panel Descriptions
Panel 1—Smart Mobility: Most would agree that that the sharing society has much to offer for the mobility of the future: car sharing, bike sharing and scooter sharing, for instance, are prominent concepts enabled by digital platforms and mobile applications. Moreover, these concepts promise to contribute to solving some of the key challenges of our time - including the depletion of resources and climate change. At the same time, it is also clear that the market is in its infancy (most people in the developing world still own their own vehicles), that there are a host of unresolved problems (i.e. trust issues, privacy, vandalism), and it is not clear what business models will succeed. However, the first success stories exist and several initiatives are growing in popularity. The panel looks critically at the current state and future prospects of smart mobility concepts in the sharing society - from both a research and practice perspective.
Panel 2—Prosumption: Prosumption has been prominent in human history. For thousands of years humans in all societies have provided goods and services for their families by prosumption. They were both producers and consumer of all the essentials they needed – food, clothes, transportation, housing. The industrial revolution, through the division of labor and through specialization, led to the separation of production and consumption. Capital productivity increased dramatically. We now see how production and consumption are again integrated - fueled by the emergence of digital platforms that afford users to be both producers and consumers of a variety of goods and services, such as food (i.e. Olio), clothes (i.e. Depop), transportation (i.e. Uber), and housing (i.e. Airbnb). The panel looks critically at the current state, understanding, and future prospects of prosumption - from both a research and practice perspective.
