[apologies for cross-posting]

We still have a few spots available for the workshop “Creativity through
Play and Gamefulness”

in conjunction with the ACM conference Designing Interactive Systems
(DIS'19) and Creativity an Cognition 2019 (C&C'19)

June 23, 2019, San Diego, USA

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Due to similar topics and interests, the workshops W1: Distributed
Creativity in Play (C&C) and W4: Towards a Research Agenda for Gameful
Creativity (DIS) were merged creating this “Creativity through Play and
Gamefulness” workshop.

This merged workshop aims to bring together both researchers and
practitioners interested in how play and gamefulness enhance and support
creative thinking. Play and creativity are intertwined. Play involves
imagination and curiosity wherein players explore potential actions and
realities. In collaborative and social play, creative contributions are
distributed among players. Correspondingly, gameful design can give rise to
playful behaviors. To that end, we argue that gamefulness and games are
approaches to activate, explore, and promote creativity. To promote an
engaging exchange of experience, insights and ideas as well as help build a
research agenda, the workshop will include two participatory, hands-on
activities: a gameful ideation session to identify potential for combining
gamefulness, play, and creativity; and a video prototyping session to
design and explore aspects of usability and experience for those potentials
identified in the ideation session.

WORKSHOP STRUCTURE

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This workshop focuses on a cross-disciplinary exchange of experiences,
insights and ideas. To promote an engaging exchange and help build a
research agenda, the workshop will include participatory and hands-on
activities such as group-based mapping exercises, a reflection and framing
session as well as a gameful ideation exercise illustrating the potential
of combining gamefulness and creativity.

This workshop will be divided into the following five sessions:

   -

*Introductions *- Participants will introduce themselves. Organizers and
authors of accepted submissions will present relevant topics that will
frame the activities in the workshop.
   -

*Mapping Exercise* - Joint brainstorming and discussion about existing
research, insights and potential future work
   -

*Gameful Ideation Exercise* - illustrating the potentials of combining
gamefulness and creativity we will conduct high-paced collaborative gameful
   ideation process
   -

*Video Prototyping* - From concepts generated during the Gameful
Ideation Exercise, participants will video prototype examples that
   concretely illustrate user/player experiences.
   -

*Presentations and Discussion* - Participants will present their video
prototypes and critically reflect on the activities of the workshop with
the goal of identifying future work and collaborations.
