(apologies for cross-postings)

Colleagues,

What do Social Media, Blockchain, IoT have in common? They converge around
location. Learn how these technologies are transforming the digital space
by attending the SIGGIS Workshop in Cancun, Mexico:

SIGGIS is pleased to announce our Workshop Keynote:

*"Location Analytics at OXXO for Mexico and Latin America: Strategic
Challenge and Success", Enrique Ernesto Espinosa Pérez, Expansión
Process Manager of OXXO*

OXXO is the largest convenience store chain in Mexico with more than 14,000
stores. For an interesting article on how OXXO is using GIS (and more):

*GIS, Location Analytics and Digital Convergence:*

*Social Media, Blockchain and Internet of Things*

*August 15, 7:30am-11:30am*

*Description:*

This workshop will serve as a research forum on the varied aspects of
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and location analytics. Aligned with
the AMCIS 2019 theme, “New Frontiers in Digital Convergence,” the focus of
the workshop will be on digital convergence of GIS and location analytics
with other existing and emerging technologies, dealing with relevant
teaching and research opportunities. Digital convergence is enabled by
various technologies, such as Social Media, Blockchain, Internet of Things,
Augmented and Virtual Reality, and the Cloud, and is often facilitated and
accelerated by locational data and spatial features of such technologies.
For example, Location Analytics and GIS move the Internet beyond cyberspace
to the location-aware Internet of Things, enabling any devices or things to
sense and communicate their geographical location over time.

This workshop, including the keynote talk by an industry leader, will
highlight emerging opportunities as well as issues, such as barriers to
adoption and use, as well as privacy and trust. In addition, a group
activity will be facilitated focusing on these research areas to discuss
the “who, what, where, when, how, and why” of participating in this
burgeoning research domain.
