The School of Information at Florida State University seeks faculty
colleagues with a wide range of interdisciplinary, sociotechnical research
interests, as well as the ability and desire to teach courses in one or
more of the following areas: cybersecurity; data curation and management;
digital humanities; digital youth; health information technology;
human-computer interaction; and information studies (e.g., information
resources, outreach and instruction, user services), with the following
highly valued emphases: data analytics; data mining; data visualization;
emerging technologies (e.g., smart devices, 3D printing, robotics); games
and simulations; interface development; text mining; mobile app
development; and underserved and vulnerable populations.
Qualified applicants will have a Ph.D. from an accredited institution or
the highest degree appropriate in Information Science, Information
Technology, Computer Science, or another relevant discipline with a
demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and
service.
Candidates should be able to articulate a research agenda that fits within
the broader research interests of the iSchool, and demonstrate the ability
to work effectively within a highly interdisciplinary environment.
Successful applicants will be expected to teach at all levels, including
courses in the School’s Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral degree programs;
experience with teaching online as well as face-to-face is desired.
Faculty typically teach 2 courses for 2 semesters (fall and spring) each
academic year. All faculty members are expected to advise students and to
serve on School, College, and University committees.
*The School of Information*
The School of Information is one of three academic units within the College
of Communication and Information at Florida State University. The FSU
iSchool offers a Bachelor’s degree program with majors in Information
Technology (IT) and Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT);
Master’s degree programs in Information and Information Technology; a
post-Master’s Specialist degree in Information; and a Ph.D. program in
Information. The iSchool faculty also operate the Social Media Lab, the
iSensor Lab, and are founding partners in FSU’s Innovation Hub (iHub), an
innovation center and fab lab/makerspace for teaching and research with
technologies including 3D printing and 3D visualization.
The School of Information began in 1926, was formally founded in 1947, and
is nationally ranked among the top information science graduate schools in
the country. The iSchool’s Information Technology Masters’ program is
nationally ranked at #10 among graduate IT programs, and the ALA-accredited
Master’s in Information is ranked among U.S. News & World Report’s “Best
Graduate Programs in Library and Information Science” at 11th overall, 7th
in Youth Services, and 1st in School Library Media.
School of Information faculty have been awarded over $50 million in
federal, state, local, and foundation research grants, and maintain a
strong connection to the community through various literacy and service
initiatives. Cultural diversity is an important goal supported by the

The College of Communication and Information is a founding member of the
iSchools organization, and has a student population of approximately 1,300
undergraduates and 500 graduate students with 87 tenured/tenure-track and
25 full-time non-tenure-track faculty members. The College is a campus
leader, and is nationally recognized for its distance and online education
programs.
