ICIS Mid-Career Faculty Workshop 2019

"Building an Ecosystem for Productivity and Impact"

If you are looking for insight and guidance on how to develop your post-tenure career, this is a great workshop at ICIS for you to attend!

Mid-Career Associate Professors should be hitting a stride. Many have achieved a level of freedom and opportunity to develop their own careers without the pressure of an up-or-out tenure decision. However, associate professors also carry a large percentage of the load at their institutions in terms of research productivity, teaching loads, and service activity (DeFilippo & Giles, 2015). As such, it can be challenging to “find a fit” as one moves forward in their career. As one article in the Chronicle of Higher Education states, as the traditional roles of the Associate Professor are changing, “the burden is placed on us as individuals to create our own narratives, our own scripts” and to define how we move forward (McLemee, 2002).

For several years, AIS has sponsored the Mid-Career Faculty Workshop, which seeks to provide an outlet for these mid-career faculty members to gain insight and guidance on developing their post-tenure careers (Petter, et al 2018). This workshop is appropriate for any faculty member that has received tenure and/or promotion to Associate Professor.

Consistent with the theme of ICIS 2019, this year's theme is "Building an Ecosystem for Productivity and Impact". Our goal is to support the notion that scholars need to build a network of relationships and resources to support their personal agenda, whether their desired role is administrative, scholarly, pedagogical, entrepreneurial, or a combination.

The workshop will be held in the ICM building on Sunday, 15 December, 2019 from 9am - 12pm.

Our distinguished list of panelists this year include:
* Jason Thatcher, University of Alabama
* Alan Dennis, Indiana University
* Ritu Agarwal, University of Maryland
* Patrick Chau, University of Nottingham Ningbo China
* Christina Soh, Nanyang Technological University

Individuals at all stages of associate professor may find this workshop useful, from newly tenured faculty members to those that have settled into their role as an associate professor. Those that have attended other mid-career workshops are welcome to come, participate, share, and learn from other associate professors.

If you have already registered for ICIS, go to https://icis2019.aisconferences.org/register to add the workshop. If you have not registered yet, be sure to add this workshop when you register for ICIS.

We look forward to seeing you at the workshop!
