DESCRIPTION

The widespread adoption of social media is accompanied by arising challenges and problems. While the negative impacts and outcomes of social media have attracted increasing scholarly attention in recent years, the problems and risks in social media use remain profound and therefore call for continued research. This mini-track invites papers that identify and address the dark side of social media, assembling a wide array of studies that examine the aspects of social media that negatively impact people’s personal lives or disrupt the operation of organizations and societies. The goal is to raise awareness of the negative aspects of social media use and to address the challenges of maintaining a safe and productive environment for social computing.

Empirical, theoretical, or position papers are welcome in this track. Topics of interests include, but are not limited to the following:

    - Privacy concerns and social media
    - Cyberbullying
    - Social media addiction and isolation
    - Social media and safety
    - Impact of social media on physical and mental health
    - Social media and productivity/job performance
    - Effect of social media on education
    - Social media on business communication
    - Impact of social media on democracy
    - Impact of social media on law enforcement
    - Social media and personal relationship
    - Social media and politics
    - Social media, face to face interaction, and personal fulfillment
    - Social media and society
    - Online identity, scam, hoax, and phishing
    - Ethical, legal issues and freedom of speech in social media

SUBMISSION TYPES

    • Full papers must not exceed 10 pages (approx. 5,000 words)
    • Emergent Research Forum (ERF) papers must not exceed 5 pages (approx. 2,500 words)

All submissions must conform to the AMCIS 2020 submission template and will be peer-reviewed using a double-blind system.

IMPORTANT DATES

    January 6, 2020: Manuscript submissions for AMCIS 2020 begin
    February 28, 2020: AMCIS manuscript submissions closes at 5:00pm MST
    March 5, 2020: All papers have assigned reviewers
    April 13, 2020: Track Chair recommendations due
    April 22, 2020: Notification of Workshop acceptance
    April 22, 2020: Camera-ready papers are due at 5:00 pm MST
