opportunity with Good Systems, a UT Grand Challenge
<http://goodsystems.utexas.edu/>. The focus of Good Systems is on the
ethics of AI, and specifically, this position will be connected to the Good
Systems Research Focus on the Future of Work. To start on *September 1,
2021*, this one-year postdoctoral position is renewable for up to two
additional years. The salary will be $60,000 per year, plus a standard
package of benefits.

of Engineering), the Good Systems Future of Work Fellow will be involved in
launching a six-year Core Research Project entitled “Making Smart Tools
Work for Everyone” which will focus on the value-sensitive design of smart
tools to empower and assist manufacturing workers and broaden participation
in the high-tech workforce.
*Responsibilities*
The Fellow will be expected to pursue individual research and collaborative
research, collecting and analyzing data; writing up results, attending
regular meetings, reporting progress to PIs, and helping to supervise and
direct GRAs on the collaborative project. This position will be a 40 hour
per week research appointment, with no obligation to teach, although
teaching opportunities may be available if desired. In addition to
research, the fellow will assist in project-related administration, events,
and public communication of results. We encourage applicants with a PhD or
equivalent degrees in information studies, science and technology studies,
communication, anthropology, sociology, psychology, human-centered design
and engineering, or related areas.
*Qualifications*
We are seeking applicants with the following qualities:
§ Research interests related to ethics of AI, value-sensitive design,
and/or the future of work at the human-technology frontier
§ Experience with qualitative field research, particularly ethnographic
interviewing
§ Interest in interdisciplinary research, particularly socio-technical
research
§ Excellent writing skills
§ Record of published research
§ Background in productive collaborative research relationships
Applicants should either have completed a doctoral degree within the past
three years or be able to convincingly demonstrate that they will complete
the degree before they intend to start this post-doctoral fellowship (e.g.,
by documenting a scheduled defense).
Applicants must be eligible to work in the US and willing to relocate to
Austin, Texas.
