Academic Resilience in the Post COVID World
Co-Chairs:
Hasan Cavusoglu, Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia, Sauder School of Business
Nicole Haggerty, Associate Professor at Western University, Ivey Business School

Description:
The pandemic disrupted many aspects of junior faculty work – from halting research, pausing data collection, generating new and sudden demands for virtual curriculum and online delivery, and creating new stresses for personal well-being. The Junior Faculty Consortium theme will recognize these disruptions and bring together participants in the early stage of their academic career to discuss career success and “Academic resilience in the post COVID world.” Our main goal is to offer all participants insights into getting back on track, post pandemic, with their academic career and offer mentoring and advice that can help them be successful and marketable in their career from their own perspective, and that of their university and the academia. Consortium participants are AIS members who are currently in an academic position but not yet tenured by Fall of 2021.

While being fully remote, the activities during the Junior Faculty Consortium will be designed to promote interaction among junior faculty as they explore how to get ‘back on track’ given pandemic-disrupted research and scholarly work activities. Participants will share what they have learned and be able to pose questions from their early experiences as faculty members. They will get a chance to discuss these questions with each other and receive feedback from the experienced faculty mentors who will share their key lessons learned from their own careers.

Confirmed Faculty Mentors:
Michelle Carter, Washington State University
Ron Centefelli, University of British Columbia
Bin Gu, Boston University
Dorothy Leidner, Baylor University
Likoebe Maruping, Georgia State University
Nilesh Saraf, Simon Fraser University
Heshan Sun, University of Oklahoma
Hüseyin Tanriverdi, University of Texas at Austin
Ryan Wright, University of Virginia

Logistics:
The consortium will take place during AMCIS 2021 on Monday August 9th beginning at noon and formally ending at 3 p.m. This will be followed by an informal and optional virtual social activity 3-4 p.m. We expect that you'll make some new friends at the consortium.

I acknowledge that Western University is located on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak, and Attawandaron peoples, on lands connected with the London Township and Sombra Treaties of 1796 and the Dish with One Spoon Covenant Wampum. This land continues to be home to diverse Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) whom we recognize as contemporary stewards of the land and vital contributors of our society.
