MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI)
Worcester, Massachusetts, USA
The Business School at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor (teaching track) opening in Management Information Systems (MIS). The position will commence August 15, 2022.
Your Qualifications: The ideal applicant will have a PhD in MIS or a closely related area, with research interests related to business analytics and its applications in business organizations. The applicant should be prepared to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels related to Business Analytics, specifically courses in Business Intelligence, Intro to Data Science, Data Management, and perhaps Database Systems.
Our Expectations: Teaching requirements for teaching-track assistant professors in the WPI Business School are six courses per academic year. Graduate courses are in a 14-week semester format, with some offerings online and some on campus (3 hours one evening per week). Undergraduate courses are in 7-week format (half semester) and meet twice a week on-campus for 2 hours. At the graduate level, business analytics courses attract students from our MBA, MS Business Analytics, MS Data Science, MS Information Technology, MS Innovation with User Experience, and MS in Operations and Supply Chain Management programs. Research leading to publications in high-quality refereed journals is expected and supported.
The School: The business school is building a strong national reputation in analytics and technology-related business disciplines and fields. We offer four undergraduate majors (including MIS), six master’s degrees, a Ph.D. (with a concentration in IT), and are active participants in WPI’s interdisciplinary programs in Data Science. The School offers faculty members an innovative and collegial educational and research environment, outstanding students, and outstanding support for research and teaching.
The University: WPI is a selective private university with an innovative curriculum centered on engineering, science, technology, and business. WPI is located in Worcester, MA, New England’s second largest city. The WPI campus community is closely knit, highly engaged and instinctively collaborative.
The Location: Worcester is approximately one hour from Boston and its many cultural amenities, as well as the seashore, and is only 30 minutes from alpine skiing. A significant attraction is the large number of technology companies and colleges and universities (13) in the area, which is ideal for dual career families.
For Consideration: Interested parties should submit a letter of application and current C.V., and make arrangements for us to receive three letters of reference. Other supporting materials, such as teaching evaluations and published articles, are welcomed. Materials should be electronically uploaded into the system through https://wpi.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/WPI_External_Career_Site/job/Worcester/Visiting-Teaching-Professor-in-Management-Information-Systems_R0001204.
