The ICIS 2021 Junior Faculty Consortium (JFC) will be held on Sunday, 12
December 2021 from 8:00am 4:00pm at the conference venue, the JW Marriott
Austin (Texas). The consortium will host up to 40 in-person and 15 virtual
junior faculty.
The JFC will focus on research, teaching, and service activities, including
how to achieve balance in these activities and navigate the challenges of
academia. The proposed program includes a series of interactive activities
combined with small group discussions with senior faculty members on how to
achieve goals and expectations, break through barriers, and deal with
unexpected challenges, as well as how to balance goals and expectations with
personal lives, and how to find mentorship and guidance along the way. There
will also be two panel sessions (promotion and tenure; Senior Editors and
Editors in Chief).
The main goal of the JFC is to offer participants insights into the academic
career that can help them be valuable, marketable, and successful in their
career from their own perspective, and that of their university and the
academy. Prospective participants are required to apply for participation.
Criteria for participation include faculty who:
1. Have a completed Ph.D.;
2. Are an untenured faculty in an academic position in the Fall of
2021; and,
3. Have registered for the conference as an AIS member and a regular
participant.
Virtual Session Option
To facilitate access to the JFC for participants who are in regions where
the time zone does not allow synchronous participation in all session, an
abbreviated version of the practical sessions will be offered from 4:0O
6:00 PM CT on December 12, 2021. This should allow Region 2 and Region 3
participants to join in for some of the afternoon panel sessions live and
continue on to the practical sessions.
Fees:
The JFC will provide a working lunch and refreshment breaks. There is a $80
registration fee to participate in the JFC in Austin. Virtual attendees can
register for a $20 fee.
Application Process and Deadline:
Please submit your application here: Application Link
<https://virginiatech.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bIRbDGik9sb3Zs2> . The form
will ask for you to include a short description of how you meet the
above-mentioned criteria.
