The department of Management Information Systems & Entrepreneurship has an open position for a Scholarly Assistant/Associate Professor of Information Systems. The rank is open, and although we anticipate hiring at the assistant level, we are also open to exceptional candidates at higher ranks. The position is non-tenure track and subject to budget approval.
The successful candidate will be required to teach six or eight courses per year (3 or 4 per semester) depending on whether research is part of expected duties. Successfully publishing practice and pedagogical scholarship could be expected for candidates with a PhD or DBA. Rank-appropriate service contributions to the Department, College, University, and community are expected. Teaching in online programs may also be expected as part of the normal teaching load. We are in the process of evaluating our upper-division curriculum to ensure it is providing the best education for our students, including an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion. There is an opportunity for a new hire to engage in this process.
Requirements
Required Qualifications: Earned Ph.D., DBA, or master's degree in Information Systems or closely aligned field from a nationally or internationally recognized university by time of hire. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching effectiveness.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate must be capable of teaching various undergraduate required and elective information systems courses utilizing interactive learning techniques.
Department of Management, Information Systems, and Entrepreneurship (MISE):
The MISE Department provides an exceptional work environment with highly supportive colleagues actively engaged in quality research, teaching, and service. Information Systems is a core strength of the department and is a top priority at the Carson College of Business and Washington State University. The MISE Department includes 34 faculty (across 4 campuses) with substantial plans to grow the department and its core strength in information systems.
Carson College of Business:
The Carson College of Business (CCB) enrolls more than 2,500 undergraduate students and 1,200 online MBA and Executive MBA students combined. The Online MBA program is currently ranked 12th by Poets and Quants and 18th by U.S. News and World Report. The college has 92 full-time faculty across its campuses and 75 staff. WSU has a set goal to advance the college's commitment to diversity and multiculturalism with respect to research, teaching and community outreach, incorporating relevant programs, goals, and activities. A strong global perspective is encouraged. To promote global awareness and capability for our students, the college also offers faculty-led study abroad programs in Belize, China, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Romania & Croatia, Spain Switzerland, and Thailand. In addition, CCB has invested in a state-of-the-art Center for Behavioral Business Research (CBBR), which opened in early 2010.
Washington State University:
Founded in 1890 in Pullman, WSU is the state of Washington's land-grant institution and one of the country's top public research universities. WSU has an enrollment of over 31,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and approximately 6,500 faculty and staff at its five campuses (Pullman, Spokane, Tri-Cities, Vancouver, and Everett), and online through its Global Campus. Unlike most multi-campus systems, WSU operates as an integrated university; thus, regardless of campus location, all MISE faculty are full members of the MISE department. The business curricula at all five campuses are accredited as one curriculum by the AACSB (AACSB accreditation was renewed for five years in 2019).
WSU is a premier research institution, ranked as a "very high research activity" (R1) by the Carnegie Foundation, with ambitions to grow. The university is currently pursuing its goal of becoming one of the nation's top 25 public research universities by 2030 through its "Drive to 25" or "D25" initiative. D25 is the University's highest strategic priority.
Pullman, WA:
Pullman is located in the rolling hills of the Palouse region and is ranked as one of the best cities to live in Washington State. Pullman is eight miles from Moscow, Idaho, home to the University of Idaho, and is served by the Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport.
