Position Opening: Chair of an Information Systems and Management Science Department

Department Summary: The Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences (ITDS) is comprised of two academic disciplines, Information Systems and Management Science. The ITDS department has 29 full-time research and teaching faculty whose mission is to conduct cutting edge research and prepare the next generation of information systems, management science, and business analytics professionals. Our department offers degrees at the bachelors, masters, and PhD levels. Five of our degrees are STEM-designated -- BS and MS in Information Systems and BBA, MBA, and MS in Business Analytics. ITDS has a long track record of producing well-prepared, motivated, and successful business professionals and academicians.  The department has been growing rapidly the past few years in faculty, majors, and overall enrollments.
University of North Texas (UNT) is a Carnegie R1, Minority Serving Institution (MSI), and its G. Brint Ryan College of Business (RCOB) is the choice of more than 7,000 students — making it one of the largest business schools in the nation.  Since 1961, the college has been continuously accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) — a hallmark of the world’s best business schools. The RCOB seeks nominations or applications for the Chair of the Department of Information Technology & Decision Sciences. The other five departments in the college are: Accounting; Finance, Insurance, Real Estate & Law; Management; Marketing; and Logistics & Operations Management.

Position Summary: The new Chair will have an opportunity to take the Department of Information Technology & Decision Sciences to new heights working closely with a collegial, productive, and dedicated team of 29 full-time faculty members. The ideal candidate will have experience and understanding in how to build, manage, and advance education and research programs in a department with several diverse areas simultaneously, how to work with the faculty in a transparent and collegial manner, and how to interact with the Dean, upper administration, and peers, e.g., chairs of other departments, for the benefit of the ITDS Department. The new Chair will be collaborative, a team builder, communicative, patient, nurturing, and judicious. They will also be capable of building relationship with industry and other organizations to expand ITDS’s research programs as well as support for student activities, scholarships, and internships, and career opportunities for our graduates.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate for this position will have an earned doctorate in Information Systems, Management Science, or a closely related discipline; academic experience at an AACSB or similarly accredited institution; achievements commensurate with a tenured appointment as (full) Professor; and a strong record of sustained excellence in research, teaching, and service.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a full professor and department chair is highly desired, preferably in a relatively large and growing department of an AACSB accredited college of business. Significant success at fundraising is also desired as is experience helping young, new faculty develop to achieve tenure, promotion, and lasting career productivity and success. PhD awarded from an AASCB-accredited or similarly accredited institution is a plus.
