Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMUQ) seeks applicants for a
teaching-track position in Information Systems (IS) beginning in Fall, 2022
(beginning as early as July 2022, pending the approval of CMUQ's academic
calendar for an earlier start than usual given Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA
world cup 2022). This is a career-oriented, renewable appointment with
primary responsibility for teaching and making scholarly contributions to
the educational mission of the Information Systems program. The IS program
at Carnegie Mellon is world-renowned for its contributions to practice and
teaching. Our faculty members are recognized internationally for their
expertise and are dedicated to postsecondary education.

The Information Systems Program at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar
offers an undergraduate major which aims to educate students to meet the
increasing demand for Information Systems talent in Qatar, the Gulf region,

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (http://www.qatar.cmu.edu/) is a branch
campus that operates in concert with several other American and European
branch campuses under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation’s Education
City. The branch campus closely follows the admissions requirements and
English language curriculum of the home campus, which awards all degrees.
The several thousand students in Education City are a broad mix of
nationalities, but primarily from the Middle East, North Africa, and South
Asia. CMUQ’s faculty is a mix of professionals hired specifically to the

*Qualifications *

A Ph.D. in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science or a closely
related field is required for initial appointment.

We are specifically looking for highly technical candidates who will teach
Information Systems courses in mobile development and applications
development. Additional skills in topics related to security, artificial
intelligence, and/or human-computer interaction are also desirable. Ease
with programming and hands-on development is an important criterion for
this position.  A record/demonstrated potential of teaching effectiveness
and/or relevant industry experience in the field of Information Systems is
welcomed. The candidate is also expected to be/become nationally or
internationally known for contributions to education or to research.

The ideal candidate should be able to teach a range of our core
undergraduate courses in Information Systems and develop elective courses

This position is at the assistant teaching professor rank. This is an
appointment with multi-year contracts and promotion opportunities. It also
offers good opportunities for professional development. This position
emphasizes teaching, curriculum development, and supervising collaborative
projects. Student advising and mentoring are highly regarded. Teaching load
is typically two classes per semester. Faculty are also expected to engage
in research or other activities that contribute to the field or to society
at large. Demonstrable professional growth during the term of appointment,
such as research, engagement in the professional community, or publication
of educational materials will be required for reappointment and promotion.
