Dear colleagues,
The publisher Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, University of
Split is currently running a scientific monography on "Smart cities
development and trends: cases and research opportunities” (Editors: Maja
Ćukušić, Anton Manfreda and Mario Jadrić). The content of this book is
intended to contribute to challenges of managing a smart city,
technology acceptance issues and new underlying business models. The
book will provide theoretical and empirical underpinnings regarding the
development and current trends of the smart city concept together with
proposing future research opportunities.
SHORT DESCRIPTION
Managing digitalization is becoming increasingly demanding due to
rapidly evolving innovations and the difficulty of managing the
complexity of related technologies. However, these issues are not
challenging for organizations and individuals only, but also for cities
and local communities. In particular, cities are faced with major
challenges arising from global shifts in the environment, rapid
urbanization and older infrastructure. As a result, several smart
city-related initiatives are emerging. Yet, not all successful. The book
will thus focus on the analysis of new business models, technological
innovations and their use related to the development of smart cities.
After all, the spread of technology and the availability of data
automatically collected generate create new opportunities for managing
public services and for the creation of new services.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The primary audience of this book will be academics interested in the
smart city concept, government organizations, managers, policy makers,
and strategic planners who intend to understand emerging digital
technologies, their impact and applicability on cities.
RECOMMENDED THEMES AND TOPICS
We are seeking chapters that are discussing the digital technologies
used in smart cities such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing,
the Internet of the Things (IoT) and others. The book will also include
strategies to implement and manage these digital technologies together
with the discussion on new business models. The Chapters in this book
will be grouped in two parts – part one will include general theoretical
and technical discussions of technologies and their benefits for modern
cities and part two will include use cases of different digital
technologies and business models in different cities.
The topics of interest for this book include but not limited to the
following:
• Determinants of acceptance and use of different technologies in
smart cities
• Implementation of Smart cities related technological innovations
• Transport infrastructure as a one of the key factors for the urban
sustainability
• Importance of standardisation and interoperability of solutions for
smart city development
• Governance in smart cities
• Simulation modelling of smart services in cities
• Challenges of managing a smart city
• Trends and success factors in the development of smart cities
• Best practices and different use cases
• Development of new business models in smart cities
• User experience management in the context of smart cities
• Big data and dashboards in cities
• Predictive Analytics for Managing Smart Cities
• Process mining and service optimisation in cities
We invite you to submit a book chapter on any of the previous mentioned
or related topics. The book is intended to highlight the work of
academic scholars, policy makers, and practitioners involved, who are
interested in the issue of smart city governance, locally and
internationally.
FORMATTING
All final chapters must have 4,000-8,000 words.
Please, send a final chapter to smartcity at efst.hr by 31 March 2022.
Submitted book chapters should not be under consideration for
publication elsewhere.
