The Department of Management and Information Systems (M&IS) at Mississippi State University (MSU) invites applications for one full-time tenure-track faculty position to start August 2022. Responsibilities include scholarly research, teaching, and service.
Candidates should demonstrate the ability to conduct quality research leading to publications in top IS journals. We are looking for a candidate who will be committed to contribute to our research focus in Information Security and Privacy - prior research on information security or privacy is considered favorably but is not a requirement. Research expectations are consistent with those of an AACSB-accredited, Carnegie R1, doctoral-degree granting College of Business. Candidates should demonstrate an ability for and a commitment to quality teaching in Information Systems - a normal teaching load is six credit hours per semester. Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in IS and conduct IS research, especially in Information Security and Privacy. Candidates should also have a commitment to appropriate levels of service within the department, college, and university.
Our Department. Most departments say they are collegial, but we truly are, as evidenced by multiple faculty research collaborations, broad commitment to PhD students, and a close-knit, work-at-the-office culture. The M&IS Department within the College of Business - fully accredited by the AACSB - includes research-active MIS faculty members who publish in premier academic journals, including (recently) MISQ, ISR, JMIS, JAIS, EJIS, ISJ, Decision Sciences, and other premier journals. Faculty are also actively involved in editorial roles and at conferences, and we have worked closely with area businesses in Mississippi.
We offer an undergraduate BIS degree, an MSIS (both on-campus and online), and a PhD in IS. Our area focus is information security and assurance. Our business information systems undergraduate degree program is the world's oldest, established in 1963. Our BS and MSIS graduates work for employers such as NSA, Exxon-Mobil, International Paper, and FedEx. Our PhD students are placed in programs such as the University of Alabama, Gonzaga University, University of Memphis, University of New Mexico, University of South Alabama, University of Texas - San Antonio, James Madison University, Creighton University, Cal State University, and Middle Tennessee State University.
Our town. MSU is located in Starkville, a friendly college town in northeast Mississippi, with good quality of life, low cost of living, mild winters, and diverse indoor and outdoor activities. The town is vibrant with opportunities for the arts, nature, and sports. We are located in the Golden Triangle Region (aka "GTR", recently featured on 60 Minutes for its manufacturing boom), about three hours from Memphis and five hours from Atlanta, New Orleans, Nashville, and the Gulf Coast. For more information, visit https://www.starkville.org/.
Our University. Established in 1878, Mississippi State University is a land-grant institution with a large, diverse student population of over 23,000 students, achieving a record enrollment for the seventh consecutive year. It is a member of the prestigious Southeastern Athletic Conference (SEC) and the university recently celebrated winning the Division 1 national championship in baseball. MSU is one of only 17 land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant public universities in the country, and has over 1,300 faculty. MSU is Carnegie Foundation R1-Very High Research Activity Institution and a National Science Foundation Top 100 Research University. The university offers extensive arts and cultural opportunities and active communities of international students and faculty. The College of Business celebrated its 100-year centennial anniversary a few years ago.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. (ABD candidates will be considered) in Information Systems or a closely related field. Previous experience in a tenure-track position will be considered favorably but is not a requirement.
