Hello,
I would like your recommendations on MBA - level textbooks (physical or digital) on "Data-Driven Story-Telling". The intended audience for this "story-telling" would be top management / leadership in some organization.
Preferred software used: Excel and/or Tableau.
Content I'm looking for:
* A set of exercises (say, at least 7 exercises) where for each exercise,
1. some data is provided and
2. students are encouraged to
* do basic descriptive analyses and simple data visualizations on the data,
i. By "simple data visualizations" I am referring to charts that usually use up to 2 variables such as: histogram, column chart, line chart, scatter chart, pie chart, tree map, heatmap, pyramid chart, chloropleth chart.
* using some common GUI-based software (such as Excel/Tableau), and
* to tell a story about the data that supports or opposes a point of view.
1. And after students do their work, the textbook unlocks one or more examples of how an expert would have analyzed the same data and told a story around it.
* Ideally the book unlocks at least two opposing "expert analyses" to demonstrate how the same data can be used (rather, abused) to support or oppose a point of view. (Example: "our company should increase the number of products we offer". Some might argue yes, and some might argue the opposite. Using the same data.).
Content I'm not looking for:
* How to do complicated analyses.
* How to create complicated data visualizations.
* Advanced techniques for analyzing data.
If you can recommend websites (instead of textbooks) where there's suitable MBA - level content that meets the above needs, please share those too.
I will compile all your recommendations into a list (with credit to the recommender), and after a couple of weeks I will send this list to everyone who sends me a recommendation. Additionally I will send it to anyone else who sends me an email requesting this list.
