The role holder will drive the long-term strategic planning of a newly established multi-million Euro research programme on Data Governance – Empower<https://www.empower-datagovernance.ie/> and will have the responsibility for achieving the research programme targets. Empower’s vision is to establish leading practices in Data Governance as the key pillar of a global data ecosystem that is governed effectively and will drive innovation, research and businesses with societal impact. The global data ecosystem will enable vast amounts of data to move effectively among actors within complex information supply chains. The Empower research programme represents research of almost €10 million focused on Data Platforms, Data Governance and Ecosystems. The Programme is coordinated by the Director of the Empower Programme, Professor Markus Helfert, based in Maynooth University and involves researchers from four SFI Research Centres: Lero, the programme lead, Insight, ADAPT and FutureNeuro.
The Executive Officer for Data Governance will be responsible to engage with Policy Makers and industry leaders and supporting the work of the Public Policy Advisory and the Industry Advisory Boards. The Executive Officer is responsible for achieving the programme objectives and will report to the Spoke Director, Prof. Markus Helfert. The Executive Officer will work directly with the General Manager at Lero (the Programme Host research centre), and with the four Centre Directors, the Business Development and the operations teams within the participating Centres. The role holder will drive the definition of the research agenda and strategy and will be responsible for promoting the importance of Data Governance research and the Empower Programme to potential enterprise partners, policy makers and wider stakeholder groups. The Executive Officer will be responsible for ensuring the coherency of the overall programme and the provision of a consistent interface to industry and enterprise partners, team members, researchers and the prime sponsor (Science Foundation Ireland).
