Do you have an undergraduate/master degree with a good GPA, an interest in AI, process mining or blockchain technology, and do you want to do a Master or PhD in a research lab recognised internationally? Then you should consider the GKS and UNIST!
About the GKS:
The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) provides international students with opportunities to conduct advanced studies at higher education institutions in South Korea. At the same time, the GKS requires students to learn intensively the Korean language in their 1st year, opening up the opportunity to build a career, in academia or industry, in Korea. Applicants to the GKS are required to have a sponsor at an academic institution in Korea participating into the program.
The "Process-Aware AI Lab (PAAI)" at the Department of Industrial Engineering, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), lead by Prof M. Comuzzi, conducts research within two main research areas: process mining and blockchain.
Process mining concerns the analysis and improvement of business processes using event log data of the systems supporting their execution. It lies at the crossroads of process science and data science and it has seen increasing traction in academia and industry in the past 10 years.
The PAAI lab focuses specifically on the application of AI techniques in process mining, such as:
- Predictive monitoring of business processes
- Anomaly detection in business process event log
In blockchain technology, the PAAI lab is involved in application-oriented blockchain projects and focuses more specifically on designing and implementing data quality-aware blockchain systems.

If you have an interest in the research topics listed above, the PAAI lab will be honoured to sponsor your application to the GKS.
We are looking for candidates with a degree in computer science/statistics/industrial engineering or a related topic, and, depending on the topic chosen, a strong background in either (i) process mining and/or machine learning and AI and programming (Python, R, Java) or (ii) blockchain, smart contracts, blockchain system implementation (practical implementation knowledge of any framework will be preferably considered: Ethereum/Solidity/EVM, Hyperledger Fabric or other frameworks, Corda)
If interested in this opportunity, please send an email ASAP and no later than March 11th 2022 to Prof Marco Comuzzi (mcomuzzi at unist.ac.kr) including:
- A recent CV, highlighting in particular the topic in which you are interested (process mining or blockchain) and your programming experience
- If possible, a copy of the transcripts of your highest academic degree
