Dear Colleagues:

There have been recent requests for the salary survey, that has been "on vacation" during COVID. There had been no updates recorded in the publicly available sheet since 2019, but I have entered all of the 13 new entries spanning the last four years. More entries are needed to be helpful to the field in having a resource to benchmark salaries.

Please note that this is an OFFER survey, not a SALARY SURVEY. Focusing on OFFERs allows us to assess the current "going rate" for faculty members in our field. We welcome your information about all professorial levels, all school types, and all situations.

Also, this survey can include offers in any year as well. If you were waiting, then perhaps "enough time" has passed whereby you believe you can finally reveal the information. That older information is very much welcome. Just indicate the year you received that offer. Obviously, information that is too old won't be very helpful.

Those of you who have received new offers you haven't reported to me, whether or not you have accepted them, are encouraged to report. You can do this TO ME ALONE non-anonymously (or anonymously), and the end result will be an entry that is always anonymous to outsiders. I do not use an assistant who is privy to this information, and manage the private information myself. You can start the process at http://www.pitt.edu/~galletta/salsurv.html.

You can access the pivot table spreadsheet of results at the same address http://www.pitt.edu/~galletta/salsurv.html. Thanks to Ido Millet<https://behrend.psu.edu/person/ido-millet-phd> of Penn State Erie for his gracious help in setting this up. If you are new to this process, the details are below.

While AACSB reports current salaries for incumbents, Deans who offer salaries on that level (not reflecting new offers) will tend to find that candidates have better offers elsewhere from peer schools, and will need to move to their second or third choice.

The forms have been modernized in the last few years thanks to Ido, but they do take a few minutes to work through and it takes some time to get the information reflected in the reports due to my scrubbing identity information and then recasting the data into the spreadsheet. The survey form enables you to provide offer information for any previous year.

Last year I reorganized the survey so that the required questions are near the beginning and the optional questions appear in the second half (except the final question that asks about anonymity).

In the past, Ido Millet has been quite helpful in providing pivot tables for the spreadsheets for several years and I thank him for doing that! The information will be updated after receiving a batch (perhaps a week's worth at a time) because it takes some time to recast the data. Therefore, please allow some time for your information to appear in the spreadsheet.

As always, I urge you to provide your answers in a non-anonymous manner (to me only) so Deans that do not trust anonymous data will be able to count a good sample of entries. You have my pledge as a Certified Public Accountant that I will not reveal any identity data. Nobody else (neither an assistant, nor a collaborator, nor a secretary) has any access to your identity. All identity data will be kept confidential. And again, please note this is an OFFER survey, not a salary survey.

DG
