The Center for Information Systems and Technology (CISAT) at Claremont Graduate University (CGU) is searching for its next Director!

This is an exciting opportunity for you to take CISAT to the next level of academic excellence.

As a diverse academic unit founded more than 35 years ago by the esteemed Paul Gray, we focus on “research for practice” in Information Systems and Technology (IS&T).

Home to 55 full time equivalent master’s students, 35 full time equivalent doctoral students, and seven core faculty members, CISAT provides a distinctive setting for scholarship in various areas of IS&T including: spatial/geographic information systems, data science, healthcare IT, ICT for development, persuasive technologies, social networks, and IS&T with teams. CGU is an independent institution devoted entirely to graduate study and as such, CISAT is well-placed to develop students that will continue to push the boundaries of the IS&T field.

Our transdisciplinary nature, and that of CGU, provides an outstanding environment for our faculty and students to apply IS&T to solve real-world problems. We are a world leader among IS&T academic programs in the application of design science research utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods.

We attract exceptional students, both domestically and internationally. Our master’s graduates are employed in a broad range of practice settings and our doctoral graduates are well-placed in both academia and industry. In this position, you will continue to expand CISAT offerings to meet the needs and interests of our first-class students, as well as collaborate with our colleagues at the Claremont Colleges to capitalize on their programs through transdisciplinary education and research.

A successful candidate will be someone of academic stature who has solid credentials in administration and leadership, research, teaching, professional service, and who could be appointed at the rank of tenured Professor.

We expect that the new Director would “tap into” the vibrant and growing technology innovation ecosystem in Southern California to identify and develop collaborations with these organizations and translate them into successful partnerships.

For example, CISAT is currently expanding its curriculum offerings in areas related to artificial intelligence, including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision. Therefore, we would expect that the new Director would nurture and grow our connections to the SoCal innovation ecosystem to support our focus on AI-enabled software development.

You will have a demonstrated ability to develop transformational IS&T programs, experience in building a strong program (in terms of ranking and reputation), a record of conducting research that targets broader impact (not just top journal publication), and internationally recognized collaborators and peers who can attest to your professionalism and ethical conduct.

The first term of office for the Director will be 4 years, renewable for one additional term of 4 years. Following the term(s) of appointment as Director, the appointee will assume regular faculty member duties within CISAT. An applicant should have a relevant PhD degree.

Applications (or nominations) require a curriculum vitae, as well as personal statements on administration and leadership, scholarship, and future vision, plus three references. The Center for Information Systems and Technology actively recruits scholars and teachers whose work will enhance the diversity goals of the Center and Claremont Graduate University; applicants who can contribute to those goals are encouraged to identify their strengths and experiences in their personal statements. Applicants who have a demonstrated commitment to issues of diversity and inclusion are particularly encouraged to apply, as are individuals whose underrepresentation in the field have been longstanding.

The new Director would take office on July 1, 2022.

The application deadline is March 18, 2022. The Search Committee will begin to review complete applications upon receipt and will continue to review applications until the post is filled. The Search Committee is committed to respecting the confidentiality of applicants. CGU is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, national or ethnic origin, religion, ancestry, sex, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, marital status, or any other basis protected by applicable laws in its employment or hiring practices.
