Dear MAB Community,

MAB PROFILES

Introducing Ana Rita Morais! Ana Rita is an MAB23 Advisory Board member and a Toronto-based academic, educator, and administrator. She is the Chair of the School of Design at George Brown College (check out their recent Year End Show (https://mab23.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8cfdd88c1ac384d3d832dc09b&id=1e153c7744&e=f396b40b5a) ) and holds a doctorate from the Communication and Culture Program at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson). Ana Rita's research interests and expertise are broad and often encompass thorough investigations of archival material, cartography, digital culture, and space/place.

"I’m interested in the ways in which media architecture can better facilitate community involvement and engagement through placemaking and public art. I am also looking forward to connecting with practitioners and academics alike to broaden the scope of my research and foster potential partnerships and collaborations."

Introducing Lauren McLeod Cramer! Lauren is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto. Her areas of interest include black popular culture (cinema, hip-hop, and digital culture), Black Studies, Visual Culture, and Architectural Theory. Her research addresses black visual culture as an archive of black spatial practices.

"I am excited to offer MAB23 an interdisciplinary perspective–my own work combines Film and Visual Culture Studies, Black Studies, Cultural Geography, and Architectural Theory–that further expands the concept of “media architecture” for arts and humanities scholars. At MAB23, I look forward to the opportunity to observe the imaginative practices of architects, artists, designers, and activists working in this field. This community’s work is so vital for scholars because a material investment in the built environment grounds the stakes of our theorizing and practitioners’ highly collaborative work emphasizes the generativity of thinking and making together–a methodology that is relevant in every area of study.

MAB COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Special Issue of Multimodal Technologies and Interaction (https://mab23.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8cfdd88c1ac384d3d832dc09b&id=76ec54fec3&e=f396b40b5a) : “Interaction Design and the Automated City – Emerging Urban Interfaces, Prototyping Approaches and Design Methods"

This call for articles invites contributions that advance the understanding of the interaction design space in the automated city, thereby shedding light on the nature of interaction with urban robots and autonomous city infrastructures. The editors are looking for original research that makes contributions to the topic in the form of new concepts, theories, empirical results, methodologies, or the documentation of design artifacts. Aiming to draw the larger picture of this design space, we are welcoming research that focuses on utilitarian as well as more speculative application areas alike.
