After successfully holding this minitrack for 5 consecutive years and
establishing a strong community of researchers and practitioners, we invite
paper submissions for the following HICSS minitrack:

Track title: Information Technology in Healthcare
Minitrack title: Self-management of Chronic Diseases and Conditions
***Fast Track to Journal Publication** *(at the discretion of minitrack
chairs)
*:*1) Journal of Information Technology & People
2) The Editor of The Data Base for Advances in Information Systems is
looking in part to this mini-track for papers that can be published in the
journals.

*Description of the minitrack:*According to the U.S. National Center for
Health Statistics, a disease is chronic when its course lasts for more than
three months. Chronic diseases and conditions persist an entire lifetime
and generally cannot be prevented by vaccines or cured by medication
(Adams, Kirzinger, & Martinez, 2013). This mini-track characterizes Chronic
Diseases and Conditions very broadly to include, illnesses (such as
diabetes, Alzheimer asthma), conditions (such as physical, sensory, mental,
and cognitive disabilities, post-traumatic stress disorder, attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder, autistic spectrum, Tourette syndrome, old
age related conditions). Recurrent illnesses and conditions caused by
chronic diseases, if not managed carefully, cannot only diminish quality of
life and ability to work, but can also result in health emergencies,
complications, and even death (World Health Organization, 2015). According
to the World Health Organization (WHO), chronic diseases are the leading
cause of mortality worldwide, and 80% of chronic disease deaths occur in
low- and middle-income countries.

Advancing patients? ability to engage in self-managed health through
information and communication technologies (ICTs), such as mobile
technologies and machine learning, is increasingly a top priority (e.g.,
The National Health Service, 2013, The Office of the National Coordinator
for Health Information Technology, 2014). Effective self-management is a
proven way of improving the lives of individuals suffering from chronic
diseases (Dadgar and Joshi, 2018). Self-management refers to a care
management approach in which patients actively take responsibility for
treating their chronic diseases (Bodenheimer et al., 2002). It is a
self-regulating, dynamic, continuous, interactive process (Schulman-Green
et al., 2012). Despite technological advances in healthcare ICTs that
improve care and reduce costs, patients often avoid using them (El-Gayar,
Timsina, Nawar, & Eid, 2013). Although ICTs have improved the health in
healthcare services in terms of the delivery of high-quality patient care
at low cost, the development of ICTs that focus chiefly on patient-centered
care is still in its infancy (Jacelon, Gibbs, & Ridgway, 2016).

With that in mind, we are looking for papers taking a variety of approaches
to answering research questions related to the design, development, and use
of ICTs on patient-centered care. Such approaches might be described as
experiments or quasi-experiments, design science, case studies, surveys,
action research, psychometrics, and ethnography. We invite papers that use
a variety of advanced technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented
Reality (AR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), or Machine Learning (ML). We
call for the papers that investigate use of ICTs for patients with chronic
physical and psychological conditions, from diabetes and asthma, to obesity
and fitness SM programs, to autism, dementia, bipolar disorders, and
depression.

Authors are invited to submit papers that address issues related to the
design, development, and implementation of ICTs in self-management of
chronic diseases and conditions. Potential issues and topics include, but
are not limited to:

   - Learning about condition and health needs
   - Learning self-management regimen, skills, and strategies ( e.g.,
   Monitoring and managing symptoms, side effects, and body responses,
   Adjusting treatment regimen to manage symptoms and side effects,
   Managing/taking medications, Goal setting, decision making, problem
   solving, planning, prioritizing and pacing in the self-management process)
   - Managing lifestyle changes (e.g. modifying diet, nutrition, smoking,
   and physical activity, Changing behaviors to minimize disease impact,
   Balancing living life with health needs, Managing disruptions in school,
   work, family, and social activities)
   - Managing psychological aspects of chronic diseases and conditions
   (e.g. Developing confidence and self-efficacy, Reducing stress caused by
   the chronic disease, Identifying and benefiting from psychological
   resources drawing on intrinsic resources, e.g., creativity, strength and
   wisdom from past experiences, Maintaining positive outlook, hope, and
   self-worth, Dealing with shock of diagnosis, self-blame, and guilt)
   - Managing relationships with healthcare providers (e.g. Creating and
   maintaining relationships with healthcare providers)
   - Managing and sustaining relationships with family, friends, relatives,
   and peers (e.g. Creating a community of peers with similar experiences,
   Obtaining and managing social support from family and friends)
   - Cultivating courage, discipline, and motivation
   - Working through issues of dependence/independence
   - Seeking resources, such as financial assistance (e.g., prescription
   subsidies), environmental support (e.g., assistive devices), and community
   resources (e.g., transportation)
   - Exploring and expressing emotional responses
   - Making sense of the chronic disease (e.g. Finding meaning in work,
   relationships, activities, and spirituality)
   - Identifying and confronting change and loss (e.g., changes in physical
   function, role, identity, body image, control, and mortality)
   - Developing coping strategies (e.g., self-talk)
   - Focusing on possibilities (e.g., envisioning the future, reframing
   adversity into opportunity)
   - Designing virtual coaches
   - ICT designs for elder care and home care
   - ICT enabled preventative approaches

The 2022 Dewald Roode Workshop on Information Systems Security Research
IFIP WG8.11/WG11.13 Friday, October 7 ? Saturday, October 8, 2022
Denver, Colorado
CALL FOR PAPERS
The 14th Dewald Roode Workshop on Information Systems Security Research will continue the efforts to advance the discipline of information systems security through the creation, dissemination, and preservation of well-formed research, following the success of the first thirteen Information Systems Security Research Workshops (University of Cape Town, 2009; Bentley University, 2010; Virginia Tech, 2011; Brigham Young University, 2012; University at Buffalo, 2013; Newcastle University, 2014; University of Delaware, 2015; University of New Mexico, 2016; University of South Florida, 2017; University of Cape Town, 2018; Louisiana Tech University, 2019; Iowa State University, 2020; University of Texas at San Antonio, 2021).
The active discussions in the workshop are intended to provide participants with specific and actionable feedback on their research. We anticipate that this process will facilitate the successful development of workshop papers for further consideration in important journals (See https://ifip.byu.edu/ for past DRW papers which have been published in journals). High-quality papers will be fast-tracked to the AIS Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction. Selection for the workshop is competitive, and only authors of the accepted papers and the active working group members will be invited to participate.
Anchoring the workshop to information systems means that the research will attend to and extend the social, organizational, and managerial literature in the focal area. Note that this is not an appropriate venue for papers with a purely technical, design-science, or econometric approach. While we assume an effective foundation in information security technology, we regard information systems risk broadly, for example, computer crime, employee misconduct, cyber warfare, cyber terrorism, human error and/or accident, natural events, etc. We also address information systems security broadly, for example, policies and policy compliance, diverse security behaviors, privacy, awareness, strategy, audit, planning, and control. These and related research topics will be the focus of this workshop.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
The 2022 Dewald Roode Workshop on Information Systems Security Research Topics may include (but are not limited to):
? Theoretical and empirical analyses of information security behavior
? Adoption, use, and continuance of information security technologies and policies
? Compliance with information security and privacy policies, procedures, and regulations
? Investigations of computer crime and security violations
? Motivators and inhibitors of employee computer crime
? Forensic analysis of security breaches and computer crimes
? Individual, organizational, and group information privacy concerns and behaviors
? Legal, societal, and ethical issues in information security
? Neurosecurity (NeuroIS) investigations of information security behavior
? Behavioral analyses of design science treatments enhancing or balancing security and privacy tradeoffs

CALL FOR PAPERS - Metaverse

** NEW: Best papers will be invited to submit to a special Issue of the AIS Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction (THCI) **

Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-56), Maui, Hawaii, January 3-6, 2023

Metaverse minitrack, under the Organizational Systems and Technology track

The term ?Metaverse? was first introduced in 1992 by the science fiction writer Neal Stephenson in his novel ?Snow Crash?. Metaverse is a portmanteau consisting of ?meta? (which means ?beyond?), to capture the development of a virtual world beyond the physical reality, and ?verse? (which refers to a back-formation from ?universe?) to refer to a virtual utopia. Second Life, a multimedia game, was launched in 2003 and was considered as the most important application of Metaverse (or virtual world) at the time. Despite the great attention that Second Life attracted, Metaverse did not manage to create a critical mass possibly due to the novelty of the technology at the time and its lack of interoperability with other solutions.

Recently, the technological advancements in blockchain technology, the evolution of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), the technological progress in extended reality (virtual and augmented), the developments in other scientific fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the convergence of all the above technologies have increased the popularity of Metaverse. It is expected that a new generation of Internet will evolve from Metaverse, built of technologies like extended reality, blockchain, and others. The dynamic of Metaverse is huge with many experts predicting that it will generate a multi-trillion market in the coming years. Despite the opportunities and the advantages that Metaverse may offer, there are many open challenges that need to be assessed and addressed including social, legal, ethical, technical, and others.

For these reasons, it is important for academics to systematically research this field at various levels. Conferences, with their fast turnaround, play a key role in disseminating knowledge about Metaverse due to the speed at which developments occur. This minitrack aims to bridge a gap at HICSS and serve as a venue to share knowledge and discuss the latest developments in Metaverse.

CALL FOR PAPERS - Blockchain Cases and Innovations minitrack

Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-56), Maui, Hawaii, January 3-6, 2023
http://www.hicss.org/

Blockchain Cases and Innovations minitrack, under the Organizational Systems and Technology track

Blockchain, the technology underlying cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, has been receiving considerable attention in recent years, as new use cases in the public and private sector have been identified. What started as a solution to the double-spending problem in Bitcoin, is being explored as the backbone technology in scenarios where a trusted third party (e.g., a notary or a bank) is normally required. Using this technology, transactions are securely registered on a data structure (aka the ledger) replicated across a network of peers that validate the entries using a consensus mechanism. New records are cryptographically linked to existing ones, rendering them virtually immutable. The resulting auditability and transparency have been leveraged in proposing innovative solutions to land registries, to stop the spread of conflict diamonds, to fight the counterfeiting of medication, to make supply chains less opaque, and, generally, to promote new financial services.

Additionally, blockchains can also store and enforce the execution of algorithmic code know as smart contracts ? pieces of code that are executed automatically once predetermined conditions are met ? further reducing uncertainty and promoting confidence among stakeholders that would not normally trust each other. Nevertheless, we are still in the early days of blockchain adoption, compared by some to the introduction of the World Wide Web itself. Then, as now, few if any could predict the full extent of the disruptive innovations that would emerge fostered by this emerging technology.

For these reasons, it is important for academics to systematically research this field, at various levels. Conferences play a key role in disseminating knowledge about Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT - including blockchains) due to the speed at which developments occur. The proposed minitrack had a considerable attendance in the past three editions, with the audience also registering to get information on new editions or other related developments.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

? Innovative uses of Blockchain technology

? Blockchain case studies, applications, and implementations

? Blockchain and privacy, security, and identity

?      Blockchain and digital transformation

?      Decentralized Finance (DeFi)

?      Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs)

?      Decentralized Applications

? Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)

?      Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

?      Tokenization

? The social and organizational impact of blockchain

? Barriers and enablers in blockchain adoption

? Blockchain and business model innovation

?      Regulatory frameworks for Blockchain

?      Governance and Blockchain

? Verticals using Blockchain (financial, healthcare, energy, transportation, others)

21st IFIP Conference I3E2022
e-Business, e-Services, and e-Society
Newcastle upon Tyne, UK - 13/14th of September, 2022

EXTENDED DEADLINE: 15th of May
The role of digital technologies in shaping the post pandemic world

The COVID-19 pandemic is arguably one of the most defining crises our societies have experienced in the past 50 years, both in terms of the global reach, but also its impact on numerous levels. In a very short time SARS-CoV-2 has created havoc across continents, effectively halting social and economic activities. In such unprecedented times individuals and private and public organisations had to respond with unprecedented measures that had a similarly unprecedented impact. The coronavirus scars will be deeply felt for a long time.

In such a context information and communication technologies had a vital role to play. Social distancing meant that online applications became critical in ensuring the continuity of personal and business services. An online meme asking "who led the digital transformation of your company" having COVID-19 as the chosen answer perfectly captures the urgency with which existing digital services were extended and new ones were rolled out, often in haste. IT managers had to react quickly to a rapidly escalating crisis and come up with innovative solutions to ensure business continuity.

Although everyone is eager to return to "normal", the post-pandemic 'business as usual' is likely to be different to that individuals and organisations were accustomed to before the pandemic. Understanding the changes that have taken place and their impact in the future is a pressing priority, if we are to thrive in such a turbulent environment. To this end, the IFIP2022 Conference would welcome submissions that aim to offer topical insights in areas of interest.

Such areas may include, but are not limited to:

  *   e-business
  *   e-commerce and retail
  *   e-marketing
  *   e-business models
  *   e-services engineering and management
  *   e-government and public services
  * e-supply chain management and logistics
  * e-business intelligence and decision support
  *   digital inclusion and diversity
  * adoption, acceptance and diffusion of digital innovations
  *   digital transformation and governance
  * digital entrepreneurship and value creation
  * ICTs for social innovation and entrepreneurship
  * research methods related to information system research
  * Innovative Applications of IS in Teaching
  * emerging opportunities and challenges related to topical developments (e.g. big data, AI, fintech, IoT, VR/AR, e-health, remote working, social media, HCI, ubiquitous and mobile information systems)

The above suggested topics are not an exhaustive list and any other topic related to e-business, e-services and e-society are welcome. All methodological approaches (empirical, analytical, conceptual or mixed) that create new insights and make a tangible contribution to theory and practice will be well received.

Important dates

  *   Submission date: 15th of May 2022
