AC06 (3-year contract)

The Wits School of Governance (WSG) is Africa's premier school of Governance. The school has been in existence for over two decades. It runs academic programmes and executive education short courses that are targeted at senior managers and public sector organisations with interests in governance as broadly defined. The school delivers training to the public sector, not-for-profit sector, and business leaders who work at the intersection between corporate strategy and public policy. The school is interdisciplinary and boasts a diverse faculty. Based in the economic hub of South Africa, WSG is in easy proximity of the country's most vibrant cities.

We also offer dynamic postgraduate programmes that include postgraduate diplomas, Master's and Doctoral offerings. We also have an extensive executive education programme. The school is at the centre of regular media events and topical debates showcasing thought leadership. We are geared for a digital future while boasting great facilities for contact and virtual learning. The school is deepening its research focus along the following areas: digital governance and anticipatory governance, green energy transitions with a focus on sustainability and equity, and contributing to building state capacity and public sector innovation.

We seek to fill the vacancy of an Associate Professor for the newly created Tayarisha Centre for Digital Governance within WSG. This role will spearhead the establishment of a Chair on GovTech and Anticipatory Governance. This position is fulltime and will be filled on an initial three-year contract basis.

Duties:
* Conceptualise and establish a GovTech hub and programmes on public sector innovation.
* Participate in fundraising activities towards creating a fully-fledged Chair to ensure it is sustainable beyond 2025.
* Coordinate activities that are currently underway at the centre especially those focusing on GovTech, Public Sector Innovation, and Anticipatory Governance.
* Build Networks across the African continent, promote the work of the Tayarisha Centre for Digital Governance; and engage with various stakeholders on its work.
* Supervise and mentor young scholars including, Master's students and doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows.
* Participate in academic programme developments especially those related to digital transformation, governance and public sector innovation.
* Support the development of digital leadership programmes at the school's executive education unit.
* Engage in limited teaching activities in postgraduate programmes and executive education.

The successful candidate will be offered an appointment for a period of three years, renewal dependent on performance and available funding.
Qualifications: You have a PhD and 5+ years' academic experience in a leadership position. You have a passion for building and sustaining scholarship of the highest quality. Track-record in fundraising. Demonstrable experience in leading or coordinating research programmes. You have a good record of teaching, research and administration. You can work effectively within a diverse academic community.
