Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor of IS position at Mississippi State University

The Department of Management and Information Systems at Mississippi State University (MSU) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor level to teach Business Information Systems at the undergraduate and graduate level for the M&IS Department. The position begins the Fall 2023 semester, and a normal teaching load is twelve hours per semester. Successful candidates should have a demonstrated ability for and commitment to quality teaching in Information Systems. In addition, the position requires the candidate conduct sufficient research to maintain academic qualifications to teach and perform service at the department, college and/or university level and engage in other activities as directed.

Our Department.  The M&IS Department within the College of Business includes research-active MIS faculty members who publish in premier academic journals. We offer an undergraduate BIS degree, an MSIS (both on-campus and online), and a Ph.D. in Information Systems. Our strategic research focus is in information security and assurance. Our information systems undergraduate degree program is the world’s oldest, established in 1963.

Our Town.  MSU is located in Starkville, a friendly college town in northeast Mississippi, with good quality of life, low cost of living, mild winters, and diverse indoor and outdoor activities. We are located in the Golden Triangle Region (GTR, recently featured on “60 Minutes” for its manufacturing boom), about three hours from Memphis and five hours from Atlanta, New Orleans, and the Gulf Coast. Our University.  Established in 1878, Mississippi State University is a land-grant institution with a large, diverse student population of about 22,000 students. Applicant Minimum Qualifications. Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in Business Information Systems or a terminal degree in a discipline appropriate for the position, possess the potential for successful performance in instructional activities in a university environment, and contribute to the service and/or other scholarly activities of the unit, university, and/or profession. ABD candidates will be considered. Level of appointment is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Preferred Qualifications. Candidates who have demonstrated the ability to make a primary contribution to teaching in Business Information Systems, including the database area and programming, as well as make a secondary contribution to research, preferably in the security and assurance area are preferred.
