*Short preview of the talk*

The field of information systems has been dominated by Western ethical and
value systems, which tend to emphasize individualism and the pursuit of
personal gain. However, African ethics takes a different approach,
emphasizing communalism, social harmony, and respect for human dignity. By
focusing on these principles, African Information System Ethics offers a
unique and valuable perspective on the design and use of technology that is
grounded in the values and experiences of African cultures and societies.
Respect for human dignity is a particularly important principle in African
Information System Ethics, as it involves designing and using technology in
ways that promote and protect the fundamental human rights and dignity of
all individuals. In this talk, I will explore the concept of respect for
human dignity in the context of information systems and highlight its
importance for ethical decision-making and responsible innovation. I hope
that by the end of this talk, you will have a better understanding of
African Information System Ethics and the principles of respect for human
dignity, and how they can be applied in the design and use of information
systems.

Regards

Jan Kroeze
