Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the 2023 ER Fellows Award Selection Committee, I am very happy to let the research community know that Prof. Isabelle Comyn-Wattiau and Prof. Giancarlo Guizzardi have been chosen as the recipients of this year's ER Fellows Award.
The ER Fellows Award is an honor given to selected individuals in the conceptual-modeling community in recognition of their contributions to ER research, ER education, and ER community service. Both candidates showed outstanding contributions in all key dimensions required to become an ER Fellow, and the members of the Selection Committee agreed and voted to select them.
Prof. Comyn-Wattiau is with the ESSEC Business School in France, where she holds the Chair of Information Strategy and Governance. She received an MSc and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Paris-Sorbonne. Her research interests include conceptual modeling, information systems and database design, data warehouse design and implementation, quality and security of information systems, and design science research. She has published more than 160 journal and conference papers on information and database systems. Her research has appeared in journals such as Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Data and Knowledge Engineering, Requirements Engineering, and major academic conferences including the International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER). She has been vice chair and chair of the steering committee of the International Conference on Conceptual Modeling.
Prof. Giancarlo Guizzardi is the head of the Conceptual and Cognitive Modeling Research Group (CORE) at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (part-time position since June 2021). He is also with the Digital Society Institute, University of Twente, The Netherlands, where he is member of the Managing Team of the Services and Cybersecurity Group (part-time position since October, 2020). Before that, he was an Adjunct Professor at the Federal University of EspÃrito Santo, Brazil. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the Centre for Telematics and Information Technology at the University of Twente, The Netherlands, 2005, and an MSc in Computer Science from the Federal University of EspÃrito Santo, Brazil, 2000. His research interests are mainly related to ontological foundations for conceptual modeling and software requirements, having published a long of his career more than 300 journal articles and conference papers. His research has been published in journals such as Applied Ontolo gy, Business Processing Management, Data & Knowledge Engineering and Frontiers of Computer Science, as well as presented in major conferences such as International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER), International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE) and Research Challenges in Information Science (RECIS).
The official award ceremony will be held at ER 2023, in Lisbon, Portugal, on 6-9 November.
