The following videos on YouTube give you a good taste of what the Management Information Systems program at the College of Business at the University of Montana is all about.

  2. Dr. David Firth, MIS professor and Warren & Betsy Wilcox Faculty Fellow, talks to Montana high school students about the Future of Work and the Management Information Systems major at the University of Montana College of Business: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UcEgtYipWw.

David came out of his MIS program at the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management with E. Burton Swanson as his chair and has been at the University of Montana for 20 years. He intends to stay, as do all our colleagues in the Management Information Systems department.

The Management Information Systems department at the University of Montana is vibrant and focuses on undergraduate education. We are the largest undergraduate major in the College of Business, and have the highest placement rate for our students, along with far and away the highest graduating salary for the entire University of Montana, currently at $85k, with the next highest in the College of Business being Accounting at $59k.

We added a new professor of MIS last year, Dr. Patricia Akello (https://www.umt.edu/business-faculty-staff/directory/information-systems.php?ID=7889) who came to us from the UT San Antonio Ph.D. program in MIS.

Our newest professor is Dr. Bryan Hammer (no University of Montana College of Business page yet!) who starts next week, and comes to us from Oklahoma State University with 10 years of experience.

Outside Magazine has voted Missoula the best river town in America https://www.outsideonline.com/adventure-travel/destinations/north-america/best-river-towns-america/

[People-watching Missoula style.]

We are located between Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park at the confluence of several rivers.

We have a ski resort within 30 minutes of town (https://www.montanasnowbowl.com/) as well as hundreds of miles of biking trails within minutes if not seconds of town.

Are you a runner? The Missoula Marathon has been voted the world's best marathon by Runner's World magazine https://www.missoulamarathon.org/

If you love the river, you can kayak right in town at Brennan's Wave https://www.makeitmissoula.com/2011/04/making-waves-in-missoula/, or fish Rock Creek, the world famous "Blue Ribbon Trout Stream" just west of townhttps://www.makeitmissoula.com/things-to-do/recreation/fishing/fishing-rock-creek-montana/

Add to this the fact that Missoula has been voted by Outside Magazine a top five place in the nation to raise outdoor children, and we've got "quality of life" covered https://www.outsideonline.com/adventure-travel/destinations/north-america/5-best-places-raise-outdoor-kids/.

Involve your kids in the world-famous Missoula Children's Theatre, known for bringing the opportunity to participate in live theater to children in large metropolitan centers and rural communities throughout the US, Canada and Mexico (which now has, not coincidentally, one of our former College of Business UM Entertainment Management directors as the executive director): https://mctinc.org/childrens-theatre-in-missoula-2/

The MIS department at the University of Montana is recognized around the world for its approach to undergraduate education and innovation in the classroom (see, for example, articles in CAIS and JISE https://aisel.aisnet.org/cais/vol23/iss1/2/)

We have a tenure track position in MIS open at the University of Montana for a FALL 2024 start date.

The link to the position is below, and one applies by clicking the "Apply - new resume/CV" button all the way at the very bottom of this page.
