The information Systems community lost one of its most promising young
members this year. Prof. Laia Pujol Priego left this world far too early in
August this year. Laia was an assistant professor at ESADE Business School.
She previously held different appointments or taught at schools including
IESE Business School, Georgetown University, International University of La
Rioja, University Pablo de Olavide, International University of Andalusia,
and University of Malaga.

Her research made significant contributions at the intersection of big
science, open science, and business. Specifically, she was interested in
how frontier technologies are developed in big science infrastructures and
commercialized using open-source strategies and development processes.

Laia had a very diverse educational background that enabled her to bridge
knowledge from a wide range of disciplines. In addition, she had an acute,
instinctive sense of finding topics that were both complex, yet incredibly
interesting. One of the most memorable comments from an external reviewer
of her PhD dissertation was, "her research is simply fascinating!"

Her work is forthcoming/published in top academic and practitioner journals
including MIS Quarterly, Technovation, Industry and Innovation and others.
Laia had also participated in designing, attracting, and managing numerous
European research grants, while also serving in the editorial teams of many
top journals and conferences.

While Laia had a very humble, warm, and friendly charm, she was also
intellectually ambitious. Her personal charisma made those around her feel
at ease and want to be part of whatever she was doing. This allowed her to
build a very large network of colleagues who enjoyed her company as a
friend and respected her as a peer. Her passing is a huge loss to our
discipline, but a much larger loss to all those who were lucky enough to be
part of her life. She is survived by her husband and two young daughters.

ESADE Business School will hold a memorial event to honor her life and work
on October 23, 18.00/6:00pm European Central Time in building 3 of the
Pedralbes campus. If you are interested in attending or following the
event remotely, please reach out to Prof. Jonathan Wareham at
jonathan.wareham at esade.edu.
