The School of Data Science (SDS) is an interdisciplinary unit governed by
six colleges. Currently, the school hosts a Bachelor of Science in Data
Science, an undergraduate certificate in Sports Analytics, and two MS
programs (Data Science and Business Analytics and Health Informatics and
Analytics). The SDS was formed in January 2020 and was the first School of
Data Science in the Carolinas. This unit teaches and researches methods to
apply statistics and computer science to areas of passion of the students
and faculty. These vary from the ethical application and use of data to
communication studies, business, healthcare, political science,
transportation, engineering, and more. The School strives to improve the
world through the appropriate use of data. The School has grown quickly to
well over 700 students and is continuing to evolve with the needs of the
students, university, and community. The SDS is preparing to launch a new
Ph.D. in Data Science in the fall of 2025.
