Tenure Track Position in AI & Business, McCombs School of Business, UT Austin
Description
The McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in the Information, Risk, & Operations Management (IROM) department, starting in Fall 2025. We seek candidates with a strong commitment to high-quality research and teaching and who can contribute to our undergraduate and graduate courses in business analytics and applied AI. Specifically, we seek applicants who are conducting rigorous, data-driven research in machine learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) within a specific business or use context to solve pressing problems or create new opportunities. We are especially interested in research that develops new approaches in ML and AI within a specific business or societal setting. Application areas include (but not limited to) digital platforms, operations and supply chain management, retail, sustainability, societal issues, and public policy. We expect that the successful candidate will contribute to the department's strengths, be a team player, and be comfortable in an interdisciplinary setting.
The McCombs School of Business, with its top-ranked faculty and educational programs, offers a stimulating and collegial environment for innovative research and teaching. The school's research centers, including those on business analytics, supply chain management, entrepreneurship, marketing, and energy management, provide opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in other disciplines and interact with multiple industry partners across Austin, the state of Texas, and nationally.
Further questions about the position should be directed to Professor Guoming Lai (mailto:guoming.lai at mccombs.utexas.edu), Faculty Search Committee Chair.
A background check will be conducted on applicants selected for the position prior to appointment.
Qualifications
Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. prior to the start date in a related contextual or methodological field, aligned with the focus of the three related groups - Information Systems, Operations Management, and Decision Sciences - within the IROM department.
Application Instructions
All applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV, a statement of research interests, and a job market paper through Interfolio (https://faculty.utexas.edu/career/148167). Applicants should also arrange for three letters of support to be sent separately. Applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled, but the review of applications will begin on October 1st, 2024 - we expect to start conducting interviews shortly afterwards, including at the 2024 annual INFORMS conference at Seattle. Candidates interested in talking to us at major conferences this fall should ensure that their applications are complete before they attend.
