Call for Mini-track Proposals
Virtual Communities and Collaboration Track
Americas Conference on Information Systems 2025
We invite mini-track proposals for the "Virtual Communities and Collaboration" track at the Americas Conference on Information Systems 2025 (AMCIS 2025) to be held on August 14-16, 2025 in Montreal, Quebec in Canada.
Track Description:
The goal of the Virtual Communities and Collaboration (VCC) track is to disseminate research and extend our knowledge of how communication and collaboration manifest in virtual communities. Virtual communities constitute groups of individuals who interact and pursue mutual goals within computer-mediated environments. They are prevalent across digital spaces, ranging from crowd platforms to social media to virtual worlds, among others. Organizations are leveraging the collective wisdom of virtual communities to improve business processes and bolster firm performance. To further enhance communication and collaboration in virtual environments, we call on researchers and practitioners to address cognitive, behavioral, social, and technical issues in these environments. The research areas of interest range from design issues in collaborative environments to fostering engagement and trust in virtual communities, as well as the impact of virtual communities and collaboration in various domains. This track aims to solicit contributions from a range of ontological and epistemological perspectives to not only deepen our understanding of virtual communities and collaboration but also enhance the theoretical foundation for research, share insightful empirical findings related to these venues, and provide guidance to practitioners.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Design, development, deployment, and evaluation of virtual communities in business, educational, and governmental settings
- Individual and group behaviors, processes, and governance mechanisms in VCC
- Collaboration for knowledge sharing and learning within virtual communities
- Human-AI interaction and collaboration in the context of VCC
- Ethics and trust issues in VCC
- Value creation and capturing in virtual communities associated with crowd platforms, social media, and the metaverse
- Individual, organizational, and societal impacts of social collaboration in virtual communities
- Big data and social analytics of VCC
- Practical implications of augmented, mixed, and virtual reality in collaborative contexts
- Theoretical and/or methodological advances in VCC
