Dear IRIS community,
We hope to see you at our workshop "Mapping HCI Methodologies to the DSR Design Phase" at DESRIST in June. Submission of position presentation paper is optional for participation.
Introduction
The methodologies we employ to bridge the gap between theoretical insights and practical solutions are paramount in technology and system development. The workshop invites you to discuss the complexities of the Design Science Research (DSR) to make it more transparent, traceable, and responsive to evolving user needs and requirements. Join us in decoding the DSR process, focusing on its design phase through the lens of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) methodologies such as iterative design and co-design.
The workshop will run for 6 hours during the DESRIST 2024 conference on June 3, 2024. We invite both experienced HCI/DSR researchers, practitioners, and academics, as well as new to this approach who are interested in exploring how various HCI design strategies can be mapped to DSR.
Workshop Agenda+:
* Position Presentations* and Problem Framing (1 hour): Participants will start the workshop with a series of position presentations, each highlighting specific challenges or “troubling problems” encountered in the design phase of DSR. This session serves as a foundation for understanding the diverse perspectives and issues participants face.
* Focused Discussion on Evaluation During Design (2 hours): Following the presentations, a comprehensive discussion will occur, centering on the methodologies and practices of evaluation within the design process. This segment is designed to foster a deeper understanding of how iterative feedback can be integrated into the design phase to refine and improve outcomes.
* Design lab visit at Högskolan Väst (30 minutes): We will have an exclusive visit to the design facilities available at Högskolan Väst. This session will showcase examples of practical design and research integration, offering insights into available methodologies and tools.
* In-depth Discussion on Documenting Design Activities (2 hours): The final segment of the workshop will explore the strategies for documenting the details of design activities. Topics will include the level of detail necessary for adequate documentation, where design activities take place, and strategies for navigating new directions when facing deviations and revisions in requirements.
+ Please note that while the order of sessions may change, the first and the final session will remain as scheduled.
* Submission Details for Position Presentations: Participants interested in highlighting specific challenges or “troubling problems” encountered in the design phase of DSR are invited to submit a one-page position paper (ACM format, PDF) by sending it to bilal.maqbool at kau.se (Please use “HCI Workshop at DESRIST 2024” in your subject line), by May 26, 2024 (CEST). However, submission is optional and not required for general participation. This paper should summarize your interest in the topic and give an overview of your past, current, and future work related to the workshop topics.
