[IRIS] Call for papers for SCIS 2026

It is with great pleasure that we announce the call for papers for the 17th Scandinavian Conference of Information Systems (SCIS 2026), which will be held in Iceland 2nd-5th of August 2026.

Call for Papers
The Scandinavian Information Systems community welcomes you to the Seventeenth Scandinavian Conference on Information Systems (SCIS), hosted by Reykjavik University. SCIS 2026 will be held August 2 - 5, 2026, in conjunction with the 49th Information Systems Research Seminar in Scandinavia (IRIS 2026) under the auspices of the IRIS Association (https://communities.aisnet.org/scandinavia/home), and the conferences will be held in Iceland.

While most participants are from the Nordic countries, we welcome researchers from all parts of the world to the conference, bringing along and delivering other than the Nordic perspectives on IS into the discussion.

Information Systems in a Volatile World: Data, Resilience, and Emergency Preparedness
We invite high-quality submissions that advance knowledge on information systems (IS), both within and beyond the Nordic perspective. We are especially interested in scholarly understanding of how we within IS can support resilience, preparedness, and informed data-driven decision-making in an increasingly volatile world. Recent years have underscored the vulnerability of global infrastructures to sudden and severe disruptions — from volcanic eruptions and seismic activity that halt transportation and trade, to cyberattacks, supply chain collapse, and cascading crises triggered by natural or human-made events. These phenomena challenge conventional approaches to information systems, information management, design, and organizational response.
Information and data form the backbone of modern societies, yet they are frequently tested by instability and uncertainty. Data in a volatile world is subject to fragmentation, misinformation, privacy threats, and infrastructure failure at the very moment decision-makers require reliability and trust. As volatility becomes an enduring condition rather than an anomaly, the IS discipline must deepen its engagement with concepts like resilience — the ability of systems and organizations to anticipate, withstand, adapt to, and recover from adverse events and preparedness — proactive measures, data strategies, and socio-technical systems that enable effective responses when conditions are uncertain or rapidly changing.
The SCIS 2026 conference provides a platform to advance both theoretical and practical knowledge on information systems, especially in areas where they intersect with risk, uncertainty, and crisis management. Submissions should aim to extend IS theory or demonstrate novel design and implementation approaches. We particularly encourage work that strengthens resilience and preparedness and that connects IS research with fields such as disaster science, organizational theory, crisis communication, and sustainability.
Paper submission

Papers are not to exceed 6000 words/15 pages using the template found on irisscis.com, and we ask that you submit your paper via the link that will be provided via irisscis.com when it gets closer to the submission deadline.
Conference Venue
The conference will be held from 2 to 5 August 2026 at Hotel Varmaland in Iceland. Hotel Varmaland is about 1 hour and 40 minutes from Keflavik, which is the international airport in Iceland. It is handy to rent a car a few people together, but there is also public transport available (albeit less effective and efficient, more info on the location is also to be found on irisscis.com).
