AMCIS 2026 "ICTs and Global Development" track, Sponsored by SIG GlobDev
We invite scholars interested in ICT and development-related research to propose mini-tracks for AMCIS 2026 in Reno, Nevada, USA (August 20-22, 2026).
The AMCIS 2026 ICTs and Global Development track critically examines the complex relationship between digital technology and human progress. It offers a space for discussions that explore the transformative potential and challenges that digital technology presents to individuals, communities, organizations, and societies. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- *digital innovation for development*: advances in ICT are being used to improve the human experience in domains from healthcare to finance. We seek to go beyond surface-level descriptions and highlight innovations that offer scalable solutions to societal challenges, while being mindful of potential risks. A growing topic of interest here is changing demographics, with some societies rapidly ageing, affecting priorities for development and areas of emphasis when investing in ICT. We are also keen on research that analyses the risks and benefits of technology-driven sustainable development.
- *digital rights and freedom*: ICT is ingrained in everyday life across the world, and this has brought to the fore issues surrounding privacy, surveillance, and online rights. We aim to explore the balance between harnessing technology's benefits while protecting individual and collective freedoms in the digital age. One specific interest is the digital sovereignty, especially data sovereignty, of marginalised groups, such as the indigenous.
- *digital technology and crisis management*: recent events underscore the importance of ICT in disaster response, preparedness, and recovery. We are particularly interested in how ICT can mitigate the impact of crises, contributing to enhancing the resilience of communities in all ways: infrastructural, governmental, and psychological.
- *the influences of digital technology on national development agendas and the integration of theories and philosophies from the Global South*. This perspective is vital for fostering an inclusive discourse that reflects diverse global experiences in shaping the future of digital technology.
Mini-tracks are not limited to the themes above or to those that were in previously AMCIS conferences. We welcome new, exciting, and innovative mini-track proposals for the Track. The proposal for a new mini-track should include a brief description of the mini-track and how it would contribute towards advancing ICT and Global Development research.
Mini-track chairs will be responsible for:
(a) promoting their mini-track to generate manuscript submissions to AMCIS 2026;
(b) soliciting and assigning reviewers for manuscripts submitted to the mini-track;
(c) providing a summary report to authors based on reviews;
(d) making recommendations to track chairs about each manuscript submitted to the mini-track; and (e) nominating best papers and reviewers.
