The College of Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State
University is seeking an outstanding postdoctoral candidate to join a
National Science Foundation (NSF) funded research project examining
collaborative privacy practices in information-intensive healthcare
settings.

Information privacy and security issues have long focused on the
individual level. Most privacy assurance approaches have been oriented
towards individual privacy practices (IPP). Yet, many organizational
settings are highly collaborative where team work is the norm.
Consequently, this project will investigate why and how people enact
collaborative privacy practices (CPP) and provide design recommendations
to develop more effective mechanisms to assure privacy during these
collaborative activities.

Specifically the project will:

1. Improve the conceptual understanding of CPP by investigating
these practices in highly collaborative and information-intensive domain
where information privacy is essential (e.g., healthcare);

2. Develop a conceptual model of CPP using a multi-method research
approach; and

3. Examine privacy-enhancing technical features that can most
effectively support CPP.

This research is at the intersections of Computer-Supported Cooperative
Work (CSCW), Medical Informatics, Information Systems, and Information
Privacy & Security. The successful postdoctoral candidate will be
expected to conduct research, publish conference and journal papers, and
mentor graduate and undergraduate students in this project.

The required skills for this position include a strong expertise in
qualitative methods and quantitative methods. The candidate should also
have shown achievement through journal publications and presentations in
major research conferences. Prior experience in working in an
interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment is desirable.

The objective of this position is to enhance the candidate's skills and
records for a placement in a leading university or research laboratory
at the end of the post-doctoral fellowship.

Education: Ph.D. in information sciences, information systems, HCI,
computer science or a related area.

Start Date/Length: Jan 1, 2011.Although we would prefer a minimum
commitment of 2 years, the length of the postdoctoral position is
negotiable.
