The Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University is seeking candidates to fill the dual role of Director and Chair of the newly created Marcel Desautels Institute for Integrated Management. The position is open to Full and Tenured Associate Professors from all disciplinary backgrounds.

The Institute’s mandate is to develop an integrated approach to management that is cross-functional and that encourages students to focus on the entirety of the business enterprise. This will be achieved through:

· the development of integrated management programs and courses that span traditional boundaries both within the Faculty of Management and across the university/community.

· partnering, where appropriate, with other business schools/institutions in developing integrated approaches to management education.

· supporting research activities that examine broad management questions that work across disciplines.

The newly created Institute is expected to have a profound and long lasting impact on the Desautels Faculty of Management. McGill expects the integrated management approach to markedly enhance the content and delivery of programs offered by the Faculty. The Institute will be the driving force for these changes. Within the Desautels Faculty of Management, there is a rich history of integrated approaches to research, scholarship, and curriculum designed to best understand business and to educate managers. These approaches include: the pioneering work of Henry Mintzberg in management and strategy; one of the most innovative MBA cores in North America which provides a truly integrated perspective; and executive degree programs such as the International Masters for Practicing Managers and the new McGill-HEC Montreal EMBA.

The Director and Chair

As the Institute’s academic leader, the Chair and Director will play a key role in the development of integrated management across the Faculty. He or she should have teaching, research, and programmatic interests that span traditional management disciplines and should have a demonstrated history of taking a truly integrated approach to teaching and scholarship. As Director, the successful candidate will be expected to spearhead intellectual activity within the Faculty, including helping to shape a research agenda around integrated management. Since curriculum design is key to achieving integrated management education, the Director will lead development activities targeted at designing integrated management education. He or she will work closely with the Dean and other key members of the Faculty.
