INTRODUCTION:

The socio-psychological and cultural aspects within information technology
and project management have recently received much attention due to the
increasing human and diversity issues affecting both fields of study and
practice. Major driving forces contributing to these issues include
globalization, technological advancements, changing project management
habits, international trade and work agreements, changes in the
socio-cultural dynamics of the workplace, society and in business norms.

Because of these factors, information technology project management must
change. To respond to changing business scenarios at the local and
international levels, stakeholders must efficiently manage the various
operations within a global socio-cultural technological intensive
environment.

Shedding light on socio-psychological and cultural aspects that influence
current IT project management practices may offer possibilities for
understanding the experiences, cultural framework, and human aspects that
may provide insight into the success and failures of IT projects, while
highlighting the benefits, barriers, challenges, and qualitative
perspectives associated with managing projects and leading teams to project
success.

Thus, the current state of IT project management presents opportunities and
challenges for researchers, academicians, qualitative experts,
practitioners, and other stakeholders to propose new research findings for
the qualitative socio-psychological and cultural aspects that influence IT
project management practices.

OBJECTIVE OF THE SPECIAL ISSUE:

In this special issue, we explore the socio-psychological and cultural
aspects of IT project management that span the spectrum of qualitative
research in addition to the issues that arise during various operational
stages that influence the success and failures of IT projects.

As the IT and project management workforce becomes more globalized, research
is needed to inform practice on how to recruit, develop, retain, retrain,
and empower effective IT project managers for optimal success. Understanding
the socio-psychological and cultural aspects that influence practices may
contribute significantly to the various decision-making situations that
arise during IT projects. The main objective of this special issue is to
reflect recent developments and study and critically analyze the issue at
the strategic, tactical, and operational levels of the IT project
management. Therefore, we invite high quality qualitative research papers
that propose and present novel models, frameworks, methodologies, results,
strategies, and practices to improve IT project management practices.
