PHD PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Students in the program are expected to complete the Ph.D. degree in four years. The first two years comprise course work and the last two are devoted to the dissertation. Students are required to take two exams before beginning work on their dissertation. The first exam, usually taken at the end of the first year, consists of a research paper and an oral examination conducted by three members of the faculty. The second exam, usually taken at the end of the second year, is a written comprehensive examination in the student's area of specialization. Once in the program, each student works closely with a faculty advisor to develop course work that consists of both required and elective doctoral level courses. All students are expected to be involved in research projects with faculty. After the second exam, students select a dissertation committee and must prepare and defend a dissertation proposal before they complete and defend the final dissertation. Upon completing the necessary requirements, students may also apply for an en route M.B.A. degree. For questions about the I.S. specialization, please contact:
