*Mini-Track:* Ethical Issues in Information Systems
Description

Ethics has great relevance, especially for sociopolitical systems that
characterize organizations and society. The recent financial crisis and
corporate scandals have prompted calls by academics and practitioners to
increase ethical perspectives in business. Indeed, recent research suggests
that ethical considerations may lead to prosperity in a business context.

Within the context of the Information Systems (IS) discipline, the design,
implementation, and management of IT in today’s organizations have
important ethical connotations. It should be noted that prior research has
shown ethics to be relevant to multiple facets of IS research, such as
technology-mediated collaboration, knowledge management, information
systems development, and security. Noting this large-scale relevance of
ethics to the IS discipline, the purpose of this mini-track is to solicit
research that furthers our understanding of ethical implications relevant
to the design, development, implementation, management, and impact of IT.

This is a call for papers that conceptually and/or empirically
investigate/analyze ethical issues related to IS. The aim of this
mini-track is not to create a forum solely to discuss the philosophical
aspects of IS ethics (they are certainly welcome), but also to present
ethical takes/analyses on multitude of IS issues that have important
implications for our organizations and society as sociopolitical systems.
Papers covering both normative and descriptive perspectives of ethics are
welcome. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

   - Philosophical perspectives (e.g., ontological and
   epistemological foundations) of IS ethics
   - Application of classical ethical theories (e.g., Kant’s
deontology and Mill’s utilitarianism) to IS
   - Application of Aristotle’s virtue theory to IS
   - Ethical analyses of IS issues from more contemporary ethical
perspectives (e.g., postmodern perspectives; Habermas’ discourse ethics)
   - Ethical considerations in IT-enabled knowledge management
   - Ethical perspectives in IT-enabled communication and
   collaboration
   - Ethical values embedded in IS
   - Ethical characteristics, practices, and beliefs of IS
   practitioners and leaders
   - Ethical issues related to IS Strategy, especially in terms of
   affecting organizational performance
   - Ethical processes in IS development
   - Ethical implications of new technologies (in terms of stress,
information overload, etc.) in the workplace.
   - Ethical challenges in the information age
   - Blending ethical and economic aspects of IS
   - Ethical takes on IS security and relevant policies
   - Ethics and sociomateriality
