CALL FOR PAPERS

Strategic Use of Information Technology Track and Minitracks
2012 Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), August 9-12, Seattle, Washington 

TRACK INFORMATION
Information systems are increasingly used to generate business value and gain competitive advantage in businesses and public agencies.  This has subsequently led to more and more interest in the successful design, development, deployment, and use of these systems.  In many cases, an absence of these systems may threaten not just a company's competitiveness but also its survival.  The objective of the AMCIS 2012 Strategic Use of Information Technology (SUIT) track is to provide the conference attendees a better understanding of the management, success, and failure with these systems.  The AMCIS 2012 SUIT track solicits research papers for one of the following SUIT minitracks.

Track Chairs: Jack Becker, University of North Texas
                        M. Adam Mahmood, University of Texas at El Paso

Minitrack: IT Governance, Alignment, and Enterprise Architectures Toward Designing Strategic and Competitive Information Systems 

Minitrack Chairs: Edimara Luciano, Antonio Carlos Maçada

A sample of topics appropriate for this minitrack include IT alignment with business plan towards facilitating the design and development of strategic and competitive information systems; IT governance towards supporting decision making; and relationship between IT alignment and IT governance, among others. 

Minitrack: IS Strategy Implementation

Minitrack Chairs: D. Lance Revenaugh, David Ottolino

A sample of topics appropriate for this minitrack include implementation issues considered during strategy development; integration of IT planning issues; alignment of IT strategy with business strategy;  enablers of and/or inhibitors of IS strategy success; and implementation of any organizational strategy that is significantly impacted by IS, among others.

Minitrack: IT Governance, Alignment, and Architectures

Minitrack Chairs: Matthias Goeken, Janusch Patas, Danijel Milicevic

Research papers of interest for this minitrack include, but are not limited to, relationship and interdependencies between IT governance and enterprise architectures; IT governance maturity models, frameworks, and architectures, and their applications and benefits; methodological support for IT governance and business and IT alignment; impact of IT governance on the business value of IT.

Minitrack: Strategic Alignment of ERP Systems with Business Strategies Towards Gaining Strategic and Competitive Advantage 

Minitrack Chairs: Tayfun Keskin, Nazim Taskin, Jacques Verville

The minitrack solicits, in general, research studies that seek to explore the business benefits of ERP systems. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to, strategic use of ERP systems, alignment between ERP and business strategies; use of ERP systems toward increasing business performance and gaining strategic advantage; role of ERP systems toward designing successful strategic and competitive information systems; and strategic flexibility of ERP systems

Minitrack: Strategic and Competitive Information Systems through e-Collaboration

Minitrack Chairs: Dan Kim, Gert-Jan Vreede

A sample of topics appropriate for this minitrack include concepts and theoretical foundations of e-collaboration; adoption and strategic use of e-collaboration technologies; e-collaboration issues in business process reengineering, knowledge management, and social computing; trust, security, and privacy issues in e-collaboration; measurement and evaluation issues in e-collaboration, among others.

Minitrack: Risk and Security Management in Strategic E-Government Initiatives

Minitrack Chairs: Jesus Cardenas, Leo Gemoets, Jin-Sheng Roan

The proposed minitrack solicits research studies exploring security, privacy, risk, and counter-intelligence aspects of strategic e-government Initiatives.  Suggested topics include, but are not limited to, incentives to encourage citizens to use cyber communications with government; privacy, security, and risk management in cyber e-government communications; e-government information access and reliability; costs involved in e-government data exchanges.

Minitrack: Impact of IT on Strategic Innovation & Competitive Advantage

Minitrack Chairs: Jiban Khuntia, Abhishek Kathuria, Terence Saldanha

This minitrack solicits studies that examine the nuances associated with innovative strategies that leverage IT. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, IT-enabled strategies that lead to firm performance; IT strategy and firm strategy that interact to create business values for firms; IT-enabled innovative strategies in IT-enabled service, IT-enabled product, and IT-enabled customer relationship management; Role of IT in managing, augmenting, and shaping innovations.
Minitrack: IT/IS Evaluation & Performance Measurement

Minitrack Chairs: Nils Urbach, Stefan Smolnik, Maurice Kügler

A sample of topics appropriate for this minitrack include, but are not limited to, frameworks and models for assessing IS success and IT business value in regional, national, and global organizations; impact of strategic, organizational, cultural, and other issues on IS success and IT business value; IS success factors and key performance indicators; empirical studies that evaluate customer relationship management systems, project management systems, and decision support systems.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND IMPORTANT DATES

Submissions must represent original work that has not been published in a journal or presented at a conference.  Submissions will be peer-reviewed using a double-blind review process.   

March 1, 2012 (11:59 PM Pacific time zone): Submission deadline 
April 6, 2012: Authors notified of paper acceptance decision 
April 25, 2012: Camera-Ready Papers due
