*CALL FOR PAPERS*

*for the HEALTHCARE ICT track *

*The 7th Mediterranean Conference on Information Systems (MCIS)*

*Guimarães, Portugal - September 8-10, 2012*

Information and communication technologies (ICT) offer significant
possibilities to transform almost every aspect of healthcare. To fully
exploit the potential of healthcare ICT, challenges must be overcome, and,
as healthcare organizations move towards patient-centered systems,
opportunities in the provision of superior healthcare services need to be
recognized.

The impact on the healthcare sector of ICT initiatives, as in the form of
e-health, electronic medical records and healthcare portals, is not only
considerable but also far reaching. Despite widespread efforts to introduce
IS to reform clinical and non-clinical tasks, adoption in many countries is
much slower than planned in all levels of health provisioning: primary,
secondary and tertiary. Consequently, it is possible that there are
incompatibilities, perceived or otherwise, with the current technologies
available to healthcare professionals.

This track aims to provide a common platform for discussion and
presentation of original research highlighting opportunities and challenges
related to the role of IS in delivering 21st century healthcare outcomes.
We invite theoretical and empirical submissions that leverage the multiple
perspectives of ICT in the healthcare sector.

Full research and research-in-progress papers are sought which address the
inter-disciplinary nature of opportunities and challenges in incorporating
ICT in healthcare. A cross-national focus will be particularly sought
suggesting that IS development, implementation and management may need to
be addressed more widely than simply looking at the organizational unit of
analysis.

*Topics of interest include, but are not limited to*

   - healthcare ICT theory development,
   - ICT theories in association with other bodies of knowledge e.g.
   patient care, and patient centeredness,
   - impact of ICT on physician-patient communication,
   - healthcare institution behavior,
   - healthcare reforms,
   - healthcare ICT system adoption/implementation success and failure,
   - healthcare ICT and Cloud Computing,
   - impact of healthcare ICT use on quality of care,
   - compatibility of healthcare ICT with clinical tasks,
   - human costs of healthcare ICT,
   - measures to assess ROI, financial implications.
