Call for Abstracts – The Workshop on Information in Networks
September 28-29, 2012, New York City
Organizers: Sinan Aral, Foster Provost, Arun Sundararajan
Sponsored in part by the Initiative on Information in Networks
http:// www.winworkshop.net

The Workshop on Information in Networks (WIN)

We are excited to announce WIN 2012. The last three years have seen
the development of an intimate and influential community, around
topics which at their core involve ‘information in networks‘—its
distribution, its diffusion, its value, and its influence on social
and economic outcomes. Scholars from fields as diverse as computer
science, economics, physics, political science and sociology have come
together to lay the foundation for ongoing relationships and to build
a multidisciplinary research community. The fourth year of WIN will
bring innovative new content and an even more vibrant discussion to
the forum. Speakers will share their recent research, which may have
been published elsewhere, but which may not be widely known outside
their own disciplines. The workshop will combine panel sessions with
invited talks and posters selected from a pool of submitted abstracts.
As we intend to facilitate interaction, the workshop will continue to
include extensive discussion periods. We hope the energy of New York
City will inspire the gathering, and that our participants will leave
with new ideas and a renewed sense of community.

Confirmed Participants as of July 1, 2012:

Ron Burt, Chicago
Lise Getoor, Maryland
Sanjeev Goyal, Cambridge
Tony Jebara, Columbia
Rachel Kranton, Duke
David Lazer, Northeastern
Michael Macy, Cornell
Jennifer Neville, Purdue
Beth Simone Noveck, NYLS
Alessandro Vespignani, Northeastern
Duncan Watts, Microsoft Research

Abstract Submission:

Participants will be selected based on submissions of 3-page extended
abstracts. Please submit an extended abstract of no more than 3 pages
to Shirley Lau (info at winworkshop.net) by August 20, 2012. Abstracts
will be evaluated as they are submitted and evaluation will continue
until the program is filled. Space is limited, so interested
researchers should submit their abstracts as soon as possible.
Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified by August 31, 2012 and
will be expected to submit a final version in Microsoft Word format
not to exceed 5 pages, including references and figures, by September
12, 2012. Accepted abstracts will be distributed as informal working
notes. Members of the press may attend the event and be present during
presentations, so please take this into account when choosing the work
you submit. .
