"The Collegiate CyberDefense Competition (CCDC) is a three day event and the first competition that specifically focuses on the operational aspect of managing and protecting an existing “commercial” network infrastructure. Not only do students get a chance to test their knowledge in an operational environment, they will also get a chance to network with industry professionals who are always on the lookout for up and coming engineers. CCDC provides a unique opportunity for students and industry professionals to interact and discuss many of the security and operational challenges the students will soon face as they enter the job market.

CCDC not only benefits the students involved, but will also benefit corporations as these graduates will be bringing a more experienced skill set to their jobs upon beginning their employment. CCDC also provides direct feedback for schools to exercise, reinforce, and examine their security and information technology curriculum.

There are typically state or qualifying competitions near you, with a regional in your area. The national competition is held annually in April in San Antonio. For more information on attending, participating, sponsoring, or volunteering for the 2010 National Cyber Defense Competition, please start by visiting the National CCDC web site at www.nationalccdc.org and looking up your regional point of contact.

For the Southeast Region (Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina & North Carolina) visit www.seccdc.org .

Even if your institution is not able to host a team this year, you may be able to volunteer at a regional event and get a first-hand perspective of how the event is conducted.
