Website Attributes Research Centre (WARC)

An opportunity exists for a one year Post-Doctoral Position at WARC, in Cape Town, South Africa. The research area includes website visibility, search engines, website usability and information retrieval. The incumbent is expected to start on or around 1 October 2013. Candidates may be of any nationality, and will be selected based on academic merits and the criteria set out in this position offering.
 
The successful applicant will work in an exciting environment, and will be expected to lead investigations on the relationship between website visibility and usability, and other related areas as noted. Research done at WARC includes studies on website visibility, SEO, query generation, PPC, interface usability, and other related topics. WARC research is scientifically rigorous, practically oriented and provides guidance to the SEO industry. For more details on publications and work done within this group, kindly view:

Specific requirements:
-         a completed doctoral degree in Information Science, Computer Science or related fields
-         familiarity with research and the academic publication process
-         a high level of skill in productivity software
-         being well-versed in English, with specifically a high level of writing skills
-         excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
-         the ability to work well within a team
-         high levels of initiative.
 
Although not a requirement, the following will be advantageous:
-         experience with statistical software
-         practical implementation experience of SEO principles
-         website development experience
-         previous publications in ISI listed journals.
 
Key Responsibilities:
-         production and acceptance of at least two journal articles and two conference papers by the end of the period
-         assistance with post-graduate student mentoring
-         involvement in content creation and management of a variety of websites
-         assistance with grant applications
-         involvement in industry co-operation within the SEO industry.
