Track Description:

The goal of the Virtual Communities and Virtual Worlds track is to disseminate research and extend our knowledge and understanding of virtual communities and virtual worlds. Virtual communities are collective groups of individuals who utilize computer-mediated environments to interact and pursue mutual goals. A virtual world is a computer-generated three-dimensional space where users interact with one another and with objects in the environment through their avatars. Virtual communities and virtual worlds continue to grow in use and importance. In fact, an important trend in domains as diverse as business, education, and government is to identify the potential applications and opportunities created by virtual communities and virtual worlds. This track aims to extend our understanding of virtual communities and virtual worlds to enhance the theoretical foundation for research, share important empirical research that has examined these venues, and to provide guidance to practitioners.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

* The design, use, development, and evaluation of virtual communities and virtual worlds in business and educational settings

* Individual and group behaviors in virtual communities and virtual worlds
