The Supply Chain & Information Systems Department in the College of Business at Iowa State University has an opening for a professor who has an expertise in Big Data.  This is a tenure-track full time line (9 months), and rank is open. The proposed start date is 8/16/2014.  (Vacancy ID# 131240)

Job Description:

Iowa State University has launched the Presidential High Impact Hires Initiative to support targeted faculty hiring in areas of strategic importance. A cluster hire of 12 faculty in five colleges within the strategically important area of Big Data is included among the 29 high-impact hires targeted in this Presidential Initiative.

As part of the initiative, The Department of Supply Chain and Information Systems in the College of Business (www.business.iastate.edu) invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Big Data Analytical Information Systems at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor to begin in August 2014. We seek candidates with data analytics expertise and expertise in at least one of the following areas: software engineering, machine learning, data visualization, or modeling aspects of Big Data analytics. Big Data is a strategic priority of Iowa State University and the Supply Chain and Information Systems department. This opening is part of the University President's initiative to hire experts in Big Data analytics in several Colleges across the University. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate effectively with other specialized Big Data hires.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have (by the start date) a Ph.D. in Information Systems or a closely related field; a strong scholarly research record as evidenced by publications (or progress toward publications) in top-tier journals; evidence of classroom effectiveness; and data analytics expertise in at least one of the following areas: software engineering, machine learning, data visualization, or modeling aspects of Big Data analytics.

For consideration to Associate Professor or Professor rank, applicants must meet, in addition to the above qualifications, the university standards for appointment to the rank, including publications in premier journals in management information systems or related fields and demonstrated ability as a successful classroom teacher.

Applicants for Professor must also have a strong national and international scholarly reputation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated expertise in business analytics, statistics, software engineering, machine learning, modeling and/or data visualization.

Demonstrated ability to teach courses related to Big Data analytics at the undergraduate, Master's or Ph.D. levels.

Published research in the field of Big Data analytics and syllabi for courses where Big Data analytics have been taught.

Previous record of development of complex interdisciplinary software systems, and successful analysis of massive data sets.
